This post is for reader, Carrie, who asked the following question: I found a really cool white romper with embroidery at the top..but the problem is it's too long and i feel like it looks like I'm wearing a big diaper baby thing when I roll up the bottom... Have any suggestions?
Whenever I go into a thrift store there are certain types of pieces for which I am always on the lookout. Right now I have my eyes open for little floral prints, high waisted anything and light, summery rompers. The other night I was making a quick run through one of my favorite thrift stores and I hit the jackpot. It seems that someone got the romper memo. I pulled romper after romper off of the rack all in sweet little floral prints. I guess some romper-loving gal cleaned out her closet and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I think I ended up with about a dozen.
When Carrie first asked that question, my initial reaction was to cut off the legs and hem them. After trying one on, I quickly realized that this would not work. Not only are the legs too long, the crotch is kind of low. Instead I took a skinny belt, wrapped it around my waist and pulled the fabric of the romper up and over it. You could also use a big ribbon and tie it in a bow. This makes the piece take on a nice, 1940's type silhouette. Presto! Problem solved. I hope this works for you Carrie!
By the way, I'm only keeping one of the rompers I found so all the rest will be going up for sale in the store over the next few weeks (including this one which will go up on Thursday).
Cute! I'm so glad they'll be going up in the shop -- keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteAwesome advice, and I'm excited to see those rompers! :)
ReplyDeleteoh geez, and i have enough rompers on my watch list! not that romper land is a bad thing...
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious, I wouldnt even dare try a romper on!
ReplyDeleteahhh! Too excited for rompers. I myself found a good romper jackpot sometime ago, but I only got about 2 or 3, but at the time it felt like a million!
ReplyDeleteadorable. you could wear anything. but I suggest some high heels! It makes everything a bit better.
ReplyDeleteLove this look, Sally Jane-its so versatile for summer!
ReplyDeleteYOU and a romper is a great match<3
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea - you really pull of that look.
ReplyDeletegoshhhhh!!! niceeeee~~~ i wish i could find one in malaysia!!
ReplyDeletei want a jumpsuit too. if you get tired of yours, it's my birthday this saturday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that - I have the same problem with a romper I thrifted and that's a great fix. I also like reader Carrie's comment that wearing a too-long romper is like wearing a big diaper - that's exactly how it feels! Not the most flattering thing for your bum ...
ReplyDeleteHAHA thanks so much for reposting my comment!! I'll send you a picture with my romper and see what you think!
ReplyDeleteooh i love your shoes, cute outfit!
