What I'm Wearing

9-18
top: vintage
skirt: vintage (altered by me)
tights: H&M
purse: vintage
shoes: vintage
hat: vintage

I was feeling extra lady-like today and wanted to wear gloves with this outfit but didn't have any that I thought matched. I'll have to put that on my list of things to look out for. This skirt is one of several that I found at a thrift store and altered by cutting several inches off the hem. I prefer my skirts a bit on the shorter side to keep my outfits from becoming too granny-costume. I was surprised at just how many stares and comments I got about my hat. I guess people don't wear hats out very much any more. Just imagine if I'd been wearing gloves as well!

  1. This is my favorite outfit so far. Definitely. The top is fabulous, the hat amazing and I'm desperately searching for skirts like that one but it seems they're not popular here cause I didn't find any... I searched everywhere but nothing :-(
I want, desperately want thrift stores!!!

  2. The hat looks great on you, and I like the way you wore it towards the back of your head. I'm a big fan of hats and also get lots of comments on mine. I don't know why more people don't wear them -- they add so much flair to an outfit!

  6. That's one of the best hats I've seen in a while! I definitely need to gather up the courage to wear hats. I think it really completes your already adorable outfit. :)

  7. I get crazy stares whenever I wear my hat too! It's big and floppy, and I use it to recreate the Annie Hall look. Ah well!

  8. I find it bizarre sometimes, that something which was once mandatory in public, is now thought of as strange if you opt to wear one. I really love your hat though. And the skirt lovely too. Generally a fabulous outfit!

  9. Yay for hats I say. When I lived in London no one looked twice if you wore a hat but here in Auckland I get some very strange looks. I think we need to bring the trend back by force and keep wearing those fabulous hats.

  13. Beautiful pictures! I love the hat. You're right: the gloves would have been the perfect finishing touch. Never mind though, I'm sure you'll find some! You make me want to dig out my cream lace ones for these sunny but chill Autumn days. :)

Alicepleasance: Oh, dear... I can't imagine what I would do without thrift stores. ;0

Audi: Thanks! I've never worn a hat like this so I wasn't sure exactly how it would go.

Tara: You're the bestest. I answered you on your blog, BTW.

kittymeow: Thanks! I already want to wear it again.

sophie: Yes, wearing hats out and about does take a bit of courage but I'm sure you can do it.

e.k. peyton: Your hat sounds great. I love the Annie Hall look.

leah: I know, isn't it strange that at one point I would have ben stared at for not wearing a hat!

svenskaussie: Let's do! I think hats should definitely be back in style.

ace: I'm almost embarrassed to say, but there was actually no sewing involved! Just a pair of scissors, an iron and a roll of stitch witch (my new best friend). :)

patrice lowery: I've been buying them up whenever I see them for sale. A pair of cream ones would be nice.

amy may: Cream lace gloves sound devine. You should wear them!

  18. Yeah, I definately think that people only wear hats in Europe which is ridiculous. Especially when you're hat is wonderful... Let them stare!

  29. Oh lovely lovely. It's funny that you would get looks and comments, because despite looking beautifully lady like, I don't think you look the least bit costumey or anything. The hat is rather splendid though, I would let you know it if I saw you.
