Carnivàle

After many recommendations I finally got around to adding Carnivàle to my Netflixt list. The little red envelope arrived in my mailbox late last week and I had my Sunday afternoon all planned. I was going to turn on the fireplace, wrap up in a cozy blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and watch the the first season while I did all of my small sewing projects and mending. My perfect day was ruined when I opened the envelope to discover that the disk was completely split on one side. I put it in the DVD player anyway, hoping against hope that it would miraculously play. Of course all it did was spin and make terrible whining noises before spitting the disk back at me. Oh, well. It was worth a shot. A new disk is on its way and I can’t wait to get started watching it. If these stills are any indication, this show just might change the way I look at my closet. Just like when I watched Control and wanted nothing more than to dress like Annik Honoré.

I saw all the series 3/4 years ago (you know, it was my work, but I really saw almost ANY series that was produced in the last 10 years and before!), it sounded terrific...so "Lynchesque" (is this a word?!) but in the end I was very disappointed by the script. Of course there are some worthy episodes but the whole product is poor. That said, the photography, the costumes and of course the landscapes are really interesting, so see it!

Oh ! I loved this show. Unfortunately they put an end to it, what a shame !

I loved everything, the characters, costumes, mysteries, even the opening... I have to watch it again

I miss this show so much. The last season was so good. I hate it when good shows get cancelled. You should watch Deadwood.

Carnivàle is one of the shows that are actually, in my oponion, worth watching! And it is interesting to know where you, amongst other stylish people, find your inspiration! :)

I saw a few episodes of Carnivale when it was on HBO, and loved the look of it, but ended up being too creeped out to keep watching it. Something about watching supernatural things at night just makes them creep into my dreams at night... It took me a while to get through Twin Peaks because of that, but I loved that show too much to give it up. The nightmares were worth it! Let me know how you're like it, i might try to give it a second chance!

Wow, the wonders of coincidental happens. I was just speaking to my brother/ researching this show. I watched a couple of the first episode of the first season but didn't have much time to really delve into it. I was not disappointed at all with the part of the show and watched and the ward rope/ cinematography is beautiful!

AlicePleasance, I completely agree with you. I was extremely disappointed with Carnivale, particularly since the everything else about the show was of such high quality. The costumes and general atmosphere of the show were so well done, with so much intrigue... *sigh* I suppose you're always going to more disappointed to be failed by something that shows so much promise, than by something that's mediocre from the start...

for me the costumes (specifically the women's dresses) were the best part. but i'm the kind of person to watch something b/c of the costumes and i end up paying attention to them more than the actual story!

i really love the fabric they used. i've been wondering if they had to get some like that imported from europe (and then nearly destroy it of course) b/c i don't see stuff like that at stores or online.

You will love Carnivale! Though if you get hooked just beware that the ending is...well, slightly ambiguous and unexpected. But still worthwhile overall!

Just found your site from Style Rookie. Like the others here, I definitely recommend Carnivale, even though it has its flaws.

And OH CONTROL. How could you not swoon over that film?
