Summer Life

Untitled-1
all photos from Life Magazine's Picnic Story: photographer Leonard Mccombe

I found these images while searching through the Life Magazine archives. As posed and sort of phony as they look, I still love the idea of having a summer picnic on the rocks by a waterfall wearing cute gingham outfits and pretty dresses. I've really been looking forward to the return of Madmen and this family reminds me so much of the Drapers. Of course, if this was the Drapers that would be scotch in dear old dad's thermos and the picnic basket would be full of cigarettes.

  1. LOL, they are very posed but they idea is cute. I think Sunday is the longest day of summer, maybe it will be the perfect chance for you to get out and have that picnic.

  2. You're spot on! When I saw the posture, hair, everything of the "Mom" model - I thought only of Betty Draper.

And the gingham blouse is so sweet, even if it's all hilariously posed!

  5. Oh so lovely and fun! The setting actually reminds me a lot of this little waterfall within hiking distance of my house. There is already a picnic planned there for this summer, and I will have to remember these pictures for inspiration.

  9. Ha, totally! This is like instant Mad Men... it reminds me of the episode where Betty is doing the modeling but it's just a scam! What a beautiful spot, wish I could picnic there.

  18. I don't want to have a family unless we can be as cute as them! Look at those wonderful sand high waist shorts- I would wear those every day if I could get my hands on a pair.
