I ran across this Irish wool 60s suit at one of my favorite vintage spots a couple of weeks ago and couldn't resist the amazing fall colors. When I got home, I put it on and looked in the mirror. Much to my disappointment, I looked too much like I was wearing a 60s costume - nothing modern about it. The colors that were so beautiful hanging on the rack were now completely overwhelming. Dismayed, I hung it in my closet where it's been teasing me ever since. So here's a little look at what I did to break up the pieces.
- First I paired the skirt with my go-to combination: a belted cardigan and boots (with a beret, of course). T-shirt: James Perse, cardigan: thrifted Abercrombie, boots, belt & beret: vintage, purse: vintage John Romain
- For a casual everyday sort of outfit, I paired the jacket with jeans and boots. Sweater: H&M, jeans: Superfine, scarf: H&M, boots & beret: vintage, purse: vintage Coach
- Next I paired the jacket with a simple black mini dress, a slouchy cardigan, tights and boots. This is my version of comfortable. Dress: H&M, boots, cardigan & beret: vintage, purse: vintage Coach
- Last I paired the skirt with a short sleeved sweater and big scarf. Sweater: vintage cashmere, scarf: H&M, beret: vintage, shoes: Seychelles, purse: vintage
It looks amazing as separates!! I adore the length of the jacket.

wow this four ways post is amazing! i particularly love the way you wore the jacket
ReplyDeleteGreat looks! The suit pieces are stunning as separates, and look very different then when paired together. I love when bloggers show different ways to wear the same item.
ReplyDeleteGreat style concept!
ReplyDeletewow, this is seriously inspirational for me. these are all such beautiful styles. it really renews my interest in finding a nice vintage suit. i think i had the same hesitation that you had, but these are the perfect solution!!!
ReplyDeletei just love how you broke up the separates-- the top two looks are my favorite. in the top right photo, you can barely tell that it's a vintage jacket, which just shows that you picked a real gem and made it modern.
ReplyDeleteOh that's wonderful. I really like the first one especially. Great ideas!
ReplyDeletedefinitely a fantastic idea! v. inspirational!
ReplyDeletefour way posts are my fave!
ReplyDeleteyou are so good at wearing vintage; you never, ever look costume-y at all!
They all amazing but if had to choose I'd go with the first sets of photos! Awosme!
ReplyDeletewow those are so cute as separates! great choices!
ReplyDeleteI adore the colors in your suit, being partial to that palette myself, however I can see what you mean when the suit is worn alone. I love each of the four looks.
ReplyDeleteRe last post: Long hair can sometimes be too long if you know what I mean. It does nothing for the shape of a person's face. It suits you at the length you presently wear it.
All the looks are nice but I specially like the second and third ones. These looks seem very modern and comfortable. Love your handbags too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous in different ways. =D

Amazing colour and texture! Love all 4 styles! If I have to choose my fav would be the one paired with the black mini!
ReplyDeleteIreally love the colours of the suit. And my 2 fav ways are the last two ... kinda french chic. Absolutley love your style!
ReplyDeleteThese outfits rock! I love them all!
ReplyDeleteyou did a fabulous job! so nice to see you in pants.
ReplyDeletei love all four looks! i have a vintage 50s/60s pendleton skirt suit that i have to break up similarly. it's just waaaaaaaay too much look to be worn together.
ReplyDeleteexcellent!
ReplyDeleteWorks very well as separates! I can see why it would be a bit much worn together, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic styling! You are a genius :)
ReplyDeleteI love the first two the best!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you/did you get your boots?
You are always so wonderful at this! I love these 4-Ways posts so much; it's visible proof that you don't have to go shopping all the time for fresh looks! So inspirational.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely - you did a wonderful job! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the complete suit, but your combination on the last picture makes it even better!

Love it, especially those with the jacket :)
ReplyDeleteThose Suits are cool.I like their colors and prints. Great idea for Suits and giveaways
ReplyDeleteWhat a cunning little suit! Love love!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the mixes, but I would definitely be tempted to wear it as a suit!
ReplyDeleteAs a plaid fanatic I could never have passed on the suit either, but your creative use of separates is even better than the fab suit alone. I love that you wore it with black tights, I would have chosen brown out of habit, but that black is the best! Love the booties, too. I may have to hang you up in my closet to push me to play with my plaids instead of wearing them in the same old boring ways.

The color is nice but I am not loving the fit of the jacket. Maybe it needs tailoring? Skirt looks better.
ReplyDeletewow is all i can say. you are a really amazing and smart dresser.
