Snow Day

Why does The Weather Channel have to come up with a "clever" (and I use that word sparingly) catch-phrase for every storm, flood and natural disaster? Apparently we're currently suffering from the "Winter Wallop". Seriously Weather Channel, knock it off. So far Mr. Wallop has dumped about 9 inches of glorious powdery snow on our front doorstep and it's still coming down in big, fat flakes. Luckily I have nothing to do today except help keep the sidewalk in front of our house clear. That mostly consists of me watching Tom sweep the sidewalk through the front door peephole while sipping hot chocolate. It's so cold out there!

Having grown up in Alabama and then living in California, I'm not used to this kind of snow. This is only the second time in my life I've ever seen this much of the white stuff (the first being the blizzard of '93 - I'm sure there was a catchphrase for that one too). While the adult in me is thinking about how to keep the house warm, digging the car out and sweeping the never-ending blanket from the steps and sidewalk, the kid in me just wants to stomp around in the deepest snow, throw snowballs and make snow angels.

  2. You two are so cute in your wintry outfits! I love snow, and I know my friends in DC would roll their eyes at me for saying it, but I'm a little sad that it missed GA. (instead we got was buckets of nasty cold rain and more flooding) Stay warm!

  11. these photographs are lovely, the snow looks so dreamy and romantic! i being a southern California girl do not experience snow that often, all though i will say i do not envy you. when it comes to snow i prefer visitation rights to custody. come january i will be in the thick of it in washington state for a week. i am quite excited about that :)

  13. Aw! I love it. I'm kind of missing the white Christmas thing being in California for this Christmas, but I have to say, snow always looks better in pictures. It looks so pretty when it's falling, then it just becomes a big, slushy, icy mess. Stay inside and be safe from all the madness snow brings.

  26. What a fun Photojournalistic view on what you did today! I hope you enjoyed the snow. It snowed a lot here too. . . but the man is shoveling alone (not that I wouldn't help, but we have two sons that need to be watched too)

  31. haha, that's one of the dumbest catchphrases for the weather ever! Snow also makes such nice light for photos, don't you think?

  34. Wow! you make snow look awsome with your outfit! may be after being in a 100% warmer then I'd decide whether I should go make a snow man. Never seen this much snow as well but in photos!!! you look super with him too!

  35. I love your photos -- you two look so great together! Your boots are fab, too!
I've lived most of my life in the South, and until this past March, the most snow I'd ever seen was from the blizzard of '93, too! Though in Georgia everything shuts down because the state is not prepared for any precipitation heavier than rain. :)
Have a great week! - JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk

  38. I think we'd all be much happier if we just embraced the kid in us, especially when it comes to weather. Who doesn't love snowball fights, or splashing in puddles, or all the other awesome stuff there is to do in "bad" weather?

  39. Perfect outfit and beautiful snow!!!

  40. you two are SO CUTE! :) I love that sweater. I'm looking for one too but it has to be really soft and so far the ones I'm finding are too itchy!

I'm headed to snow on Wednesday but for now it's mid-60s in Los Angeles!

    Stay warm!!

  42. I thrifted those same boots in black a while back. They're awesome!

  43. You're making that blizzard look glamorous. I live in Alaska, so I know they're not. Or maybe it's just Alaskan blizzards. Anyway, these photos are ADORABLE and make me hate the snow and the cold a little less.
