Worishofers

Untitled-2

So, I know we're on the down-swing of summer and I'm really not thinking too much about summer sandals right now, but I saw an article on these granny shoes that "all the hipsters are wearing". Mainstream news outlets can be so funny, no? Anyhoo... they're called Worishofers. They're hand-crafted in Germany. And they are extremely orthopedic looking. Maybe you're already hip to these, but my being oh-so-not hip, this is the first time I've seen them.

The article I read said they'd been spotted on the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst and Michelle William. Now, I don't really follow "celebrity fashion" but if I did, I'm certain these ladies would be at the top of my list. Plus they look darn cute on the gals in the street style snaps above. The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. They do look awfully comfortable which is more than I can say for a lot of sandals. What do you think? So ugly they're cute?

  1. They're not that bad. The two on the right are pretty cute. The two on the left would have to grown on me, but I don't hate them. They do look super comfy.

  2. I've owned like 3 pairs over the past couple of summers. They're great, pretty cheap, and comfy. Mine always get pretty beaten up and gross by the end of summer but still money well spent and easy enough to replace.

  3. I like the brown one on the upper right. I like the slightly elevated wedge heel, but all the others look like shoes my professors would wear. :)

  4. I quite like them. Some of the designs are nicer than others. Just looked on their website and some of the styles come in fab colours like yellow and patent red!

  5. dio mio..these have been around for-EVA. I have had at least 4 pairs in the last 3-4 years. They are THE most comfortable shoes around. highly recommended if just a teensy bit overdone (in these parts anyways, just being honest?). but i still wear them !

  6. Love the bottom left ones and considering I own approx. no shoes that don't hurt, I might have to consider purchasing.

  9. I actually like them...i don't need any more shoes, but I think if someone gave these to me for a birthday or something, I would wear them :)

  10. this could just be the 16 years i lived with my old-world paternal grandmother speaking but, sorry, there is nothing sexy or youthful about these shoes to me. like a lot of extreme hipster fashions, I think the point is to prove you are so hot that even granny shoes/a mullet look good on you. Don't mean to sound rude-- I am a hipster, just not that good looking enough to be cute in these

I have a pair of the sling backs in white and they are the most comfortable shoes ever! I had foot surgery a few years ago and these are the only shoes I have that have any foot support mainly because they're the only ones that are cute enough to actually wear if your not an older lady.

  12. i have a pair and i've been wearing them non-stop! super comfortable and cute. they're kinda granny shoes, but then, that's what people say about vintage style in general!

  13. I have a pair of the slingbacks in black! They're very comfortable, and I like that vintage-y look. The only issue I have is that because they're leather, the sling kept stretching and I'd have to tighten it up to the next notch, which pushes my toes further down the shoe.

I'm considering getting a pair of the slides!

  16. I have four pairs and I love each one of them, especially my yellow slip-ons (like the one on the bottom right). I fully embrace granny style, thankyouverymuch.

  17. it's really the slingback part of the shoe that gets to me.

  18. I have a pair of the ones in the upper right corner (but in red). I walked around all day the first time I wore them and didn't get a single blister. So comfortable. Possibly the best sandals ever. Seriously.

  21. I remember older ladies wearing such shoes in the times of communism in Poland. I've got mixed feelings about them. But the brown ones on the upper right look nice, and it seems that once you try them on you may actually want to own a pair.
And btw I just want to say that your blog is my daily read, one of just a few favorite ones. Reading it made me finally start my own blog.

I am stoked to see this posting. I starting wearing a pair of shoes from Remix called the Greta that are similar in design to the ones you show on the bottom left. So many women have commented on them; about half feel the need to tell me they are ugly. They seem to cause a lot of hilarious controversy which makes me know a cultural shift is underway. I actually love the brown and nude ones here best. Its the polar opposite of super sexy/super feminine, which is what we have been saturated with for years now.

  24. i saw an article about these sandals in slate last week! i think they are cuuuute granny appeal. except the the one on the bottom right doesnt even strike me as granny at all!

  26. No, ABSOLUTELY NOT. And while we're on the subject, let's not forget the other hideous shoe trend that the Germans unleashed on us: the BIRCKENSTOCKS. Ew and again ew.

  27. it looks comfortable :)

  28. definitely a win! i love the granny look. and these have that extra little twist of chic so it doesn't look too unflattering, you know? especially the bottom left pair. i would say take the plunge!

  29. i own a pair of these are they are amazing. i wear them almost every day. they feel like walking on air, which is probably why they are popular in cities like NYC where ladies do a lot of walking.

they may look granny in product photos, but theyre actually really cute on and i think that point is proven in those pictures. the price is right too!

they come in a million colors too, which is great. i plan on getting more next summer!

  30. I love my lace up white ones. I found them in a thrift shop for $3.00 a couple of months ago. I think they've never been wore they were in such good condition and very white still. They are so comfortable.

  31. What a fun discussion! Thanks for featuring an Urban Weeds photo.

My thoughts... well, they're cute on those girls. I might buy some for next summer, but it doesn't mean I'll wear them! It's all about personal style.

    Love your blog!
