What I'm Wearing

blazer: thrifted
shirt: Urban Outfitters
jeans: Superfine
Converse: thrifted
scarf: H&M

I've had several people ask me about my Superfine jeans. When I was living in LA, I was working as an assistant in a fashion retail store. I never really blogged about my "real job" because I wasn't sure if anyone from work was reading this. Even though it was a nightmare job at times, it was paying my way to live in LA and I didn't want to lose it because of something I said here. There were really strict rules about "what happens at Maxfield, stays at Maxfield" because of client confidentiality and silly little things like that. You would have thought we were dealing with national security issues! But no, it was just bratty celebrities and spoiled rich kids. The biggest perk of the job was "Christmas Credit". Every year I would get a set amount that I could spend in the store on whatever I wanted. So... mostly I racked up on staples that I could otherwise never afford. Like $285 Superfine jeans.

Now, I don't think I would ever go out and spend $285 on one piece of clothing, but I have to say these just might be worth it. I think they are the perfect jean. Super tight, but with just enough stretch, a slightly higher waist to avoid the heinous "muffin top" look and really simple back pockets. So much better than Cheap Mondays! If I bothered doing the math, I'm sure it would come out to just pennies per wear at this point.

So, if in the future you see some Lanvin or Balenciaga in my wardrobe remixes - no, I haven't won the lottery. It's just more swag from my old job. That's about the one thing I'm going to miss about that job.

When I lived in NYC I worked at Bloomingdales in Soho and women would come in and spend $2000 on a few pieces and I would think , wow that's what I make in a month. But my favorite was when moms' would drop $4000 on their middle schoolers for "back to school" shopping.

That is hilarious... scary but hilarious! I'm sure they made you sign one of those "confidentiality clauses" as well.
Jobs like that in the Fashion (or Entertainment) industry can be so damn draining for such silly reasons. Like you said, it pays your way & the perks are awesome.
I am unemployed right now & am seriously considering working at a health food store full time. Thanks for sharing!

Love the whole outfit. I've worked in retail before (never at a place as swank as your former job) and totally get the ups and down of retail. Discounts and free clothes rule, but the customers ultimately make it not worth the stuff...

I know how you feel about the store thing, I've never worked in retail but one day I asked a girl who worked in my favorite store if I could take a picture of her adorable outfit and she was really hesitant because of a similar policy. I wish I worked in retail for a sweet discount! Although there aren't any really good boutiquey stores where I go to school so I'd be stuck at F21 or possibly thrift...
