Egretta Garzetta

I don't usually post about unmentionables on the blog, but these are too pretty to pass up.  Egretta Garzetta is a handmade line of lingerie from Riga, Latvia.  The name "Egretta Garzetta" is the Latin name for a bird that in Latvian is called the Silk Heron.  Each piece is designed and sewn by shop owner Līga Radziņ.  Lucky for us, her work is accessible around the world via her Etsy shop.  

Raw Denim

For the past year or so I've been toying with the idea of buying a pair of raw denim jeans to break in.  For a long while I didn't wear jeans very often, but lately, I've been living in them.  I just haven't been able to find the perfect pair and it seems that a pair broken in by your own daily wearing would by definition, have to be the perfect pair.  

I've done a bit of online searching and unfortunately, most of the information about raw denim is directly at guys.  Apparently it's sort of a guy thing.  Who knew?  I did find one helpful post here which gave me a few ideas of where to start. 

I'm leaning towards a pair of A.P.C. jeans.  But they have so many fits, I'm not sure which one would be right for me.  So... the next time we're in NYC I'll definitely be stopping in the A.P.C. store to try on as many pairs as it takes until I find the right ones.  I'm also curious about Raleigh Denim since they have jeans cut for women, but their raw denim is not 100% cotton and I'm not sure how that affects the "breaking in" process.  Any ladies out there have any experience with raw denim? 

Holiday Wishlist

 

As the holiday season is upon us, I realize that I don't need anything.  But isn't it fun to make wishlists anyway?  Here are a few things that I wouldn't mind Santa leaving under my Christmas tree (if I had put up a tree this year - which I didn't). 

1. Zara Leopard Coat - It's so cold outside right now it's hard to find the motivation to get up and get dressed.  A fun coat like this might be the kick I need to get going. 

2. Delos Earrings - Not being much of a jewelry wearer, these simple, delicate earrings are right up my alley.

3. Tea Kettle - I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do consume copious amounts of herbal tea and hot chocolate to stave off the cold.  A kettle of hot water on the stove would come in handy. 

4. Sessun Boots - Do these really need an explanation?  The perfect boots, really. 

5. Woolrich Blanket - This blanket would come in handy for curling up on the couch with a good book or movie.

6. Scented Candles - With the windows closed for the winter, I miss the fresh air in the house.  Some good wintery candles would get me through until the spring. 

D'Orsay Flats

I've been on the hunt for a pair of very sensible shoes to wear on an every day basis.  My default footwear for winter is usually a pair of riding boots (over very thick socks!).  I've always marveled at the girls wearing their flats on bare feet in the freezing cold.  Why?!  I just can't do it.  I've also never liked shoes with pointed toes.  So, it's vexing to me that I've found myself so smitten with the idea of a pair of D'orsay flats.  Cold, impractical shoes with pointed toes!  But I want them nonetheless.

Dream Collective

I'm still on my jewelry kick and have been enjoying wearing it more and more.  My new obsession is Dream Collective by Kathryn Bentley, especially the enameled pieces.  I feel like that evil eye cuff would give me some serious Super Woman powers!

Sandalwitch

Even though it's still snowing here, I have summer on the mind.  And nothing says summer more than a pair of strappy sandals.  I'm sooo ready to get my feet out of boots!  Last summer I could never make up my mind about which pair of sandals to buy, so I never bought a pair.  Wouldn't it by nice if I could get my hands (er, feet) on a pair of these handmade sandals by Sandalwitch.   If you're in or around San Francisco you can sign up to take a class from the talented sandal-maker.  Oh, to be back in California!

Erie Basin

I've finally fallen down the rabbit hole that is Downton Abbey.  In the last week (OK, really just four days) I've made my way through the entire first season and halfway through the second.  I'm not really sure why I resisted it this long.  The set design and costumes alone are season enough to watch.  I'm not usually one to linger over what I would consider "fancy" jewelry but I can't help but notice the pieces adorning the Crawley sisters.  That has led me to explore in depth the archive of Erie Basin, purveyor of some mighty fine fancy jewels!  I'm especially partial to the feather brooch, something I've been searching for forever.

Old Faithful Shop

I recently finished an office makeover project that included a fresh coat of paint, shelves and hooks on the walls for organizing and a general sprucing up of my daily work space.  In doing so, I was definitely coveting lots of items from the Old Faithful Shop.  Actually, I wouldn't stop at decorating my office space from this shop.  I could seriously raid its stock for the kitchen, the bathroom, the backyard...

Arc

A new time waster for me is perusing the Savannah, Georgia based shop Arc. This well curated shop has lots of favorite brands like Something Else, Pretty Penny, Dear Creatures, A.P.C., Wren and Rachel Comey.  The only problem I see is that most of the things on my wishlist are already sold out.  From the looks of the shop, it's worth a road trip if you're anywhere close!

Datter

I'm sure I've probably mentioned this fact somewhere here before, but I am not much of a jewelry wearer.  I've been wearing the same pair of little gold hoop Jennifer Meyer earrings for about ten years.  I never take them out and honestly forget that I'm even wearing them most of the time.  I'll don an occasional necklace or bracelet but that's about it.  Lately my necklace of choice has been the Watchful Eye necklace from Datter Industries. I love how dainty the pieces are without being cutesy.  That's a tough thing to balance.

Moroccan Kilim Boots

I'm not sure where it came from since it's sort out outside my normal range of what I wear, but I've been newly obsessed with finding the perfect pair of Moroccan style kilim boots.  I've been living in a pair of black skinny jeans and a denim shirt and while I have no desire to wear much of anything else these day, I think a pair of these boots would make that combination a little less boring. 

It's difficult since the very nature of the boots makes them one of a kind and I'm scare to order a pair not knowing exactly what I'll get.  If the thought had dawned on me sooner, I could have visited the Kiboots store when we were in Amsterdam.  Instead, I've been stalking Bohemia site in hopes of snagging a pair of the Oujda style in my size.

Patternity

I decided to eschew all patterned tights a few years ago when I deemed myself officially too old to pull them off.  They are always a bit too cutesy for this gal's legs.  But then I discovered Patternity and their limited edition of hand screened tights printed in geometric shapes and I'm having to seriously reconsider my commitment to solid color tights.  I'm especially crazy about the Totem print.  Now, are they better in Bauhaus red or Bauhaus yellow? 

Guilty Pleasure

I must admit that one of my guiltiest pleasures is new socks.  I love new socks.  Are there people out there who don't?!  I go pretty much all summer long without touching a pair, so when fall rolls around I sort of go into sock-loving overdrive.  There's a sock store at the local outlet mall and each fall Tom and I go to stock up on warm, wintery socks.  It's sort of a ritual.  See?  I'm totally obsessed.  Currently, my favorite place for sock-coveting is Lisa B.  I'm especially smitten with the snowflake and color block designs.

Brookes Boswell Millinery

Doesn't this look like perfect summer fun?  A backyard barbecue with good friends, good food and cocktails.  I just discovered Brookes Boswell Millinery through the latest issue of NEET Magazine.  The perfectly styled lookbook definitely caught my eye.  It's like a modern day party right out of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. 

Wool & the Gang

I just discovered the company Wool & the Gang (clever, huh?) while I was browsing through the Steven Alan site.  I was attracted to their simple shapes in earthy colors that seem appropriate for any season.  The pieces are knit from Peruvian wool, each collection containing a selection of basic pieces.  Or, if you're patient and talented they also sell knitting kits so you can make your own version.

Brixton

I was looking around for a simple, classic style hat and ran across a Brixton one that really caught my eye.  By the looks of the hat, I thought Brixton was an older company that had been producing hats for decades but I was wrong.  It's a fairly new company, founded in 2004 by three friends who wanted to provide timeless yet modern products.  Their lookbook has a really laid-back California vibe that screams summertime.
