I've been digging through Flickr again looking at old photos for inspiration. It's quickly become one of my favorite pastimes. Today I was on a particular mission to find photos of Josephine Baker, the expatriate singer and entertainer famous for (among others things) being the first African-American female to star in a major motion picture. I've always admired the flapper inspired costumes she wore during her acts, even though most of them are far too theatrical for practical, every day wearing. I did find one great set of photos that contains images from throughout her career. As often happens in Flickr, one photo led to another and then another and before I knew it I was digging through yet another great set. This time I found myself flipping through photo after photo of vintage vaudeville performers and their wonderful costumes.

I could easily see the leftmost dress in the fifth picture being remade by Miu Miu. It's really cute!
