Braids

For most of my adult life I've had pretty short hair - like pixie cuts or above-the-shoulder bobs. It's only been in the past couple of years that I've let it grow and grow. Now I enjoy having long hair and can't imagine cutting it all off. Since I'm not used to having long hair, it really never occurs to me to do anything with it but let it hang there. After the Pike Pine Blog post from yesterday with the photo of the pretty girl with the braided hair, I've been thinking braids would be a great way for me to get my hair off my neck once the weather turns hot. I know this isn't a novel idea to most people, but I'm not used to having hair long enough to do anything with. I've been collecting photos of girls with soft, loose braids wrapped and pinned to their heads. This seams like the perfect way to top off the summer dresses I'm dreaming of wearing.

Also... I always wanted to know how to do one of those fish-bone braids but could never find any instructions that made sense to me. I found this tutorial online and it's so simple and easy to follow!

thats so funny i have the exact same hair situation (is that what youd call it?) but i always had short hair and now its actually so long for the first time in years. and i said i was only going to grow it for a year but now i am in love with it, its such a nice change after having it short for so many years. my mom used to fishbone braid my hair when i was small. good tutorial :)
(i really love your blog, i always read but this is my first comment)

I <3 braids. I can't wait to see what you do with them! I started braiding like made weeks before I chopped my hair off--which I regret bitterly. Fish-tail braids are lovely, and they're really easy once you get the hang of it! I think they're almost better and easier, because the more you mess up the better they look! I used to get in trouble for doing them on my waist-length hair in Chemistry class :P

I have understood how to do fishbone braid at last thanks to this video!! One other nice thing to do with long hair is updo: it can look beautiful (I love particularly updos that are a bit messy). Have a nice day!

I love braids! Cute yet elegant! I just used a lot of braids in a fashion show I did hair for! Not super easy to do on oneself!

Aw, I love that bottom picture. It's so messy and defined and sweet and layered all at the time. Asian hair is so hard to work with for braids.

Aw, these braids are so cute, they remind me of Heidi or a cute little dutch child from a time past. Thanks for posting that video! If my hair is long enough, I will definitely be attempting to rock this look, I always need something new for my hair.
