Cabbages & Roses

w

Doesn't this look like a fun way to spend a summer afternoon? Dangling your bare feet into cool, fresh water and munching on watermelon with your girlfriends? It sounds perfect to me. And the perfect thing to wear on such a perfect afternoon would be sweet, simple frocks like these.

Sometimes it seems like girls in the UK have all the good shops. There's Topshop and Toast and Whistles and Cabbages and Roses. Perhaps some of these shops aren't quite as nice as I've made them out in my head, but I can't imagine Cabbages and Roses being a disappointment. At least not as far as their offerings for this spring are concerned. They have the perfect little dresses and tops for lounging around on a sweltering summer afternoon. A little stroll through their online shop also revealed the likes of housewares, stationery and if you're feeling particularly crafty, a selection of fabrics from which to make you own summer wardrobe. I admit that at times they veer a little too much into "shabby chic" territory for my taste, but used sparingly I think their pieces could be just the cure when the summer gets so hot we'll be longing for cool fall days once again.

I'm a UK girly. You can buy from Topshop online ;) they have a US site now. I'm afraid I can't help with the others! I'd never actually heard of Cabbages and Roses, I'm gonna check it out.

CUTE!! I am kind of a fan of the "shabby chic" look if it means those faded colors and kind of country farm girl hand-me-down frocks. Guess I got to get to England!

That photo is causing me to yearn for sun-squinty days.

In other news, I definitely need more horizontal nautical stripes in my 'drobe.

Yes there are amazing shops here in the UK and Cabbages & Roses is one of them. But at nearly $200 for very simple cotton dresses with little to no detailing causes concern for the future of these lovely shops. Topshop is a cheaper alternative but can't boast the "Made in the UK" credentials, hence the less expensive prices.

I always think US girls think UK shops are a lot better than they are. Nowadays I can't even bear to go into Topshop; only its Boutique & Unique clothes have any real sort of good fabric quality. Also, there is a plethora of good London based places but the rest of the country pretty much gets ignored. I am always jealous of you Statesiders who benefit from more thrifting opportunities!
Also, this is my first comment after reading your blog for months. Keep up the good work! xoxo

Seems like lucky girls in ENGLAND have all the good shops, we in Scotland only have TopShops and here they became rather "trashy-glammy" kindish. A style I just don't understand.

Anyway I so want a Cabbages and Roses store here, I just fell in love. :(
