New Old Stuff

It's been a while since I did a post highlighting some of my vintage finds. I think that's mostly because I haven't kept anything for myself in quite a while. Everything's been going straight into the store. I think one reason for that is I've had very specific pieces in mind that I've been looking for and haven't had much luck. I've been reading more and more about the Depression Era and have become a bit fascinated with the fashion of the time. I've really been on a treasure hunt for pieces from that era (as you can probably tell from my last couple of outfit posts).

I don't think many feedsack dresses must have survived the years but I was lucky enough to snag the girl's feedsack dress on the left. It falls into the so-short-it's-indecent category but luckily it has a three inch hem allowance. I think a little work will render this into a perfect little spring dress. The cut reminds me a lot of some of the APC dresses I've been coveting. I do not believe the other dress is feedsack, but it's lovely nonetheless. And the best part is, it's completely wearable as is - no alterations! I've been searching for a pair of 30's oxfords for ages but they're always so small. People really must have had tiny feet then! I really want a pair with open toes (the kind with mesh sides, you know?) but these are quite nice too. And they fit!

These little gingham skirts have to be my favorite find from this week's vintage shopping. I think they must be from the 60's but could be older. Nothing screams spring like gingham! Doesn't it make you think of walks in a flower garden and picnics in the shade? I love the subtle details on these like the grosgrain ribbon lined waistbands and the lace trim on the inside of the hems. Everything was finished with such thought. These do fit me and I'm tempted to keep one in my closet. But which one?! I love the pockets and belt loops on the red one but the green one's nice too. Hmmmm...

I say keep the red one - because it seems like you like it (and I want the green one!)

:)

I think the green one would be more versatile.

Ahh keep them both! To wear at least once before you sell one. So cute!

These are such neat finds. I love the feedsack dress especially. My grandma has given me quite a few scraps of feedsack fabric, and I wonder if there's enough to sew a dress together. That would be worth checking into, though I don't know the first thing about making dresses. Hmm...

I think you should keep the red one, it's SOOO classically gingham, and the pockets are just too precious to let go of.

If you must choose (must you?), definitely keep the red.

The dresses are so pretty! :) Both the skirts are lovely, but I would definitely vote for the red one. ;)

They're lovely.

I've been reading up on feed sack fabric, its so interesting. Can you recommend any books?

The little feedsack dress totally reminds me A.P.C pieces! I would have been all over their spring stuff if they had made sweet little florals like that. Too cute! I bet it will look awesome on you. The shoes are just spectacular too. I love it when thrifting results in the perfect things.

I say keep the green, it looks like it could be more versatile with the shape... more flowy!

I think the green will go with so much more than the red. I just adore the shape of both skirts though.

Keep the Green.

The green one is much less common than red, and the diagonal check makes it seem classier.

I love both those skirts! I wouldn't know which one to go with.
For me, I would see if I already have something similar, and go with the other. Or at least go with the one I know I'd wear more.

Thanks for all of your comments!

Erica: The red one is very classic but I still haven’t decided!

Milla: That’s true, it could be.

Meghann: That’s a good idea. But I’ll probably go ahead and list one of them this week.

Rebecca: Thanks! I love the feedsack dress too. How nice that you have all of those scraps! Perhaps you can find a good project for them.

Zombie Lace: I know, the pockets are my favorite!

Tara: I figure I don’t need two gingham skirt in my closet so I’m letting one of them go. I’m still not sure which one!

Casey: Another red vote, huh? I think I’m beginning to lean towards the green. ;)

Caitie Harri: Thanks! I’ve just been reading about it online, but you just gave me a great idea for a post!

anja louise: Thanks! I definitely thought of APC when I saw that dress. They’re just too expensive for me so I was happy to find an alternative.

Vintage Angel: I’m starting to lean towards the green one too. I love the seaming details on the front.

svenkaussie: Thanks! The shape of the skirt is just perfect, isn’t it! Just what I was looking for.

Holly: Thanks! That’s a good point. Red gingham is everywhere but I rarely see green.

Amber Danese: Thanks! The shoes might be my favorite!

vintagegurl92: Thanks for chiming in! I love both so it will be hard to decide.

Eyeliah: Thanks! I was super excited about sharing these with you gals.

Summer: Thanks! I just wish I’d found them months ago. It will be too hot for them soon. Oh, and I get around to updating my link list about once a month.

Clareassiral: Thanks! I love the collars on these too.

muchlove: Me too! It’s a tough decision. I’ll have to take your advice and check my closet.

venia: Thanks for checking out my blog! I’ll be sure to look at yours too. I only get around to updating my link list about once a month but I’ll put you on the to-do list.
