Vintage Photos

[1]

I love stumbling across archives of vintage photographs. I always want to know the story of each and every person. Doesn't this look like a fun group of girls? I'm especially smitten with the girl in the front row, second from the right. I just love everything about her - from her messy finger waves to her v-neck sweater to her little floral corsage and the pleats in her skirt and her patterned stockings. I'm convinced that she and I would be fast friends had I been enrolled at the Holton-Arms school circa 1927.

I've been wasting way too much time going through the photo archives over at Shorpy. The wonderful thing about this archive is the photos have been scanned in from original negatives so they're all super high quality. You can enlarge them and see all sorts of detail you wouldn't normally be able to view. Some of my favorites are the old pageant photos from the teens and twenties with all the bathing beauties lined up on the beach in their finest wool swimwear (here, here and here). Can you imagine?!

ahh i wasted maaaany hours one day clicking through the photos on Shorpy. The pageant photos were the best!! While wool swimwear is ridiculous, ha, there were some insanely beautiful bathing suits if I remember correctly. There was one of a girl with long curls who looked just like a mermaid from the deep!

she does stand out! it's hard to tell, but maybe it's because her hair is lighter then the others and her shoes, too and those patternd tights give her something naughty as well as the carelessly done hair, i can imagine it beeing hard for her to stand still for that picture! i know what you mean about wanting to know their stories, why they have a certain expression, what brought them there...

I would love to hang out with this group of girls, mostly to get in good enough with them to raid their closets :~) I love it when you post the neat old pictures you find, looking at antique photographs is one of my favorite hobbies!

Ahh, this is so fantastic! I love that same girl--she seems one of those who has a particularly whimsical sense, because of the patterned stockings and whatnot. I was so struck by the quality of this photo also! For a moment I was convinced it was a contemporary picture taken to look old!

My eyes caught the same girl first. As history lover I love stories behind people in the past.

That girl in the very front row, second in on the right, as gorgeous features. She has true natural beauty. Its almost refreshing because all of our photos are mostly altered these days.

Thanks for the great post!

Kisses!

The girl on the bottom row, second from the right also has the best tights! Love them with her cute shoes! She reminds me of Jane from Pride & Prejudice (the newish one with Keira Knightley).

She does look very ethereal and sweet. Of course my eye went to the top row, big white color, dark sharp haircut!

The same girl caught my eye! Fingerwaves seem to be the hairstyle that looks awesome both neat and messy.
