Lula Confession
I have a bit of a confession to make. I've never actually gotten my hands on a copy of Lula Magazine. I know, I know. That seems like some sort of sacriledge in this blogging world, right? It's just that I've never been much for buying magazines because I thought they were all sort of the same Conde Nast vision of fashion and never much interested me. I guess I got it in my head that I didn't really like magazines so even when a good one came around I just stubbornly stuck to not buying one, even though I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the scans from the pages online.
Word spread quickly across blogs today about the new Lula website so I thought I would finally give in and check it out. There are three short films on the site. I tried watching them all but for some reason I'm having some internet issues which made the films all jumpy and jarring. I finally made it all the way through "I Put a Spell On You", written in part by Sarah Sophie Flicker. Watching the film that way made it seem even more like an editorial come to life. Every time the movie paused unexpectedly, it was like a page ripped from the magazine.
Once my internet issues are worked out I want to go back and watch the other two films. I have to admit, seeing this film with all its mother-nature-wicca-goth-fairy-princess sort of imagery has me itching to get my hands on the new copy of the magazine. A convert at last!

I confess: I never get my hands on Lula magazine, too. The reason of this crime is that here in Italy it's difficult to find it (and probably it would be sooo expensive). But this magazine inspires me more than the others...So I go visit the website, thank you for let me know it!
p.s. It's a luck for you that you do not feel into buying fashion magazines: unfortunately I can't resist and often it's a waste of money.
Lula is defenetely the nest magazine ever.
When You open it is like falling in a fashion tale.
Everything is girly, delicate, magic.
It has a pretty vintage style, I guess.
You have to by this issue!

I would love to get Lulu magazine! I nominated you for a blog award btw ;)
Also, once you start buying mags, it's hard to stop. I justify dropping $18 on a mag by telling myself I'll keep it forever. And I'm crazy, I don't let anyone else look thru my fancy mags. They'll bend the pages!
(crazy. I know.)
I had the same issues watching the films and have no idea why. I did notice, however, that after letting it play through once, all choppy like that, if I played it again it went smoothly. I think it might be my wireless connection. Not sure.
I really need to get my hands on this magazine, too. I think I will be off to hunt it down this weekend. The films on the website finally convinced me.
I have an even greater confession to make:
I don't like Lula much at all!
Then again, I'm not really a floaty wafty kinda girl, so perhaps it's not a surprise. A little goes a long way for me.
I don't usually buy magazines either--just read them wherever--but I get Lula when I see it because it's quite nice quality, the pages are thick, it has a book-like cover (nicer than most paperbacks anyway) and it's thick, so it's basically like buying a book anyway.
Otherwise, I just ask for subscriptions to magazines for birthday and Christmas gifts :)
lovely! thanks for sharing.
Hi !
I discovered the aforementionned video a few minutes after reading your new post and was thrilled to see your gif ! I used it on my blog, and I credited your blog, naturally ! If however you want it removed, just tell me. But I would like it to stay if it's okay for you.
much love from paris
xx
Well, now that you have succumbed I hope you are not disappointed.
And Corrie - I agree with you totally.
Magazines really do suck you in, however, that's what their purpose is I guess. Interiors mags are my downfall.
Dude, I am also kind of anti-magazines. I only buy Lula and just got a subscription to Fudge, but I always feel like magazines are kind of a waste of money. I look at them once, there are so many ads, and I'm not really into all of the product pages (Russh has a lot of them, as does Fudge but the Japanese layout of clothing is a lot nicer to me, aesthetically speaking), I just like the editorials and sometimes there just aren't enough.
If you have a hard time finding Lula, let me know and I can send you a copy. Our Barnes & Noble at the mall gets in a LOT of copies for some reason.
I love this magazine. I have them stacked up in a corner of my living. The pictures are lovely but the interviews/stories are often woman I am already a fan of and so delighted them have chose to write about. I can't wait to get the new issue. When you can check out the Miranda July video on the site.
p.s. I love your blog!
I haven't had my hands on Lula eather, though it's just cause they don't sell it in this part of the world.

I can't wait for Lula!

I quite enjoy Lula but I must admit the models look just as emaciated as those in any other fashion mag and that puts me off a little. It's not like I am expecting them to be voluptuous, but they remind me of the Machinist.
It 's not purely about fashion, but I wish I could get Frankie over here. I found a copy once, and have been following their website eversince.
