September Wish List

b

I was looking around for things to put on my September Wish List and quickly realized that I could make a whole list of items from Anthropologie. I have to be honest and say that Anthropologie usually loses me in the summer months when they go all big-floral-prints and over-the-top-ruffle dresses. But as soon as that fall/winter catalogue comes in the mail with models in wool jumpers and coats, tights and leather oxfords all posing in some brightly colored run down South American hotel I'm seriously back on the wagon.

And another thing about that store... in the past few years it seems that their prices were really skyrocketing. I couldn't walk through one without falling in love with a dress then having my heart broken after taking a peek at the $300 price tag. Ouch! But I'm noticing lately that the prices seem to be slowly dropping. I wonder if they didn't experience some sort of backlash or perhaps it's the economy. Whatever it is, I'm not complaining.

I agree that their fall dresses, especially, and some of the little jackets are beautiful. Online. But in the store the quality is so disappointing to me. Does anyone else find this? Thin (or too-stiff) fabrics, sloppy-looking prints, poor construction. With these drawbacks, even $150 for a dress feels like too much, or I just stop wanting it. I have been doing so much shopping online that facing the reality of quality in the mass-market stores (not just Anthro but others, too) in person was a good wake-up. Anyway, sorry to be so critical! Your picks look lovely!

I can't get down with the summer stuff either. Those florals!! Barf. I don't remember when it happened, but those big florals suddenly showed up and everything started looking like a reimagining of wacky 70's wallpaper and it was everywhere! It all just makes me think of Old Navy shirts that I see while thrifting.

Some great fall colors with these dresses! I did some fun fall thrifting today, it was so satisfying to pick those dark colors off the racks!

These Fall dresses are beautiful. I especially like the black one. I'm literally counting down the days until Fall begins so I'm really excited.

according to the wikipedia entry (ha, i cant believe i'm citing this), anthropologie markets to women with combined family income of $200,000 or higher. after i read that, i felt sort of silly for even browsing anthro's site!

that being said, i just got the sept catalog today and did notice there were more dress in the 150-200$ range than usual. good sign!

Wow Lexie, that wikipedia entry is kinda crazy! I guess I shouldn't be shopping there either haha! That aside, I'm glad they are dropping their prices, they really do have some lovely pieces for this season. But as with everything there, I won't be buying anything until it goes on sale :(

I must say that I agree with all of you, ladies. No time in the near future will I (or my wallet) find that we can afford the lovelies from Anthro, but I do confess that every catalog I excitedly pull out of my mailbox is stored in my "one day" dresser drawer ... you know THE one day that they decide to drop prices for ALL women, not just those that can afford a high price. *Sigh* Until then ...

But I did want to say that I adored your picks and love that they are going back to simpler shapes and colors. Nothing says winter like a wool jumper and some tights. Yummy.

I agree about Anthropologie - many of their items are too embellished and cutesy, sometimes. They are one of those places that when I first look at the stuff I get excited but when I go back for a second look I wonder what I was thinking. Must be the way its presented. Did anyone get that new catalogue that is shot in the woods with a cabin? Those photos were cool - they reminded me of some of your photos, Sally Jane.

I adore your blog! You have such great photos and we share very similar styles. Where in the world did you come across that last dress? I scoured the Anthropologie website looking for it but haven't had any luck! I'm in love love love with it!

love that little rust colored jumper. these are all great fall finds. i just with anthropologie weren't so expensive! something in my nature can't justify spending that much money on a dress when i'm certain that i'll find something similar and vintage with a much less hefty price tag.

Love your fall pics! I am a big Anthropologie shopper, but I am no where close to the $200,000 yearly salary Wikipedia states. I just add the items I like to my wishlist and wait for them to go on sale - 90% of the time I'm able to buy it for sale price. I love fall clothing at Anthropologie.

Those are lovely dresses! Anthropologie clothes look great online, but seem to disappoint me when I visit a store. Not like I have the wallet for them anyway, haha. Mmm, love the style of the black dress.

These seem worth checking out.

I've been eying the jumper, and that forties-ish printed dress is pretty incredible, too. My big purchase from Anthro for fall (thus far) is the navy coat with the brass latches. ;)

Good work with this collage o' dresses! You've managed to pick out the best things from a Fall collection that, to me, had far too many pieces that looks like a reconstructed hacky-sack (nineties nostalgia is one thing, but some of those sweaters? Good god!)

I work at the Anthropologie in Cincinnati, and I will tell you right now that the first two dresses in the top image are SO MUCH MORE ADORABLE IN PERSON. Seriously. That first dress has kelly green stitching details that are to die for.
