Liking the Look of The Like

1

Hmm... at first I was a bit hesitant about reposting these photos of The Like because, well, I don't really like The Like. There's nothing wrong with their 60s style girl band tunes, it's just that I like my music a bit more dark and moody. But, there's no denying that these gals have style! And that's really what this post is about... not their music.

Reading the article that accompanied these photos made me a bit nostalgic for vintage shopping in LA! I used to frequent Ragg Mopp on Sunset (never found much there) and Squaresville in Los Feliz (loved that place). I also love that they're wearing that kind of eyeliner that always looks good in photos but when worn in real life makes you look like you just got punched in the eye. It makes me want to play around with make up in photos a bit more (or wear some, period).

I wanted to do a post on the Like's style too. They must have such fun swapping clothes from their closets. I love their hair!

Squaresville is my go to place for a hot, new outfit. I too love that place! And I am so grateful that their prices are affordable. So many of the vintage stores here in L.A. have become OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I'm glad some stores still keep it real.

Hugs,

Ashley

Fuck, I wanna dress like Tennesee in peter pan collars and saddle shoes.

I feel the exact same way! Not so into their music but I love their style. They opened for a concert I went to last year and I wasn't feeling the music at all but I couldn't stop looking at Tennessee's dress! It was a white trapeze dress with big black polka dots.

Their style is almost too good to be true. I'm gonna have to close this web page quickly because the dresses have made me come over all funny!

I just recently got into The Like's music and I actually like it a lot (maybe because I'm in to more upbeat tunes!). But anyway, they all have such great look and I totally am taking a cue from Tennessee and loading my wardrobe with mini dresses and saddle shoes!

saw them at a house show in Austin. They seem really chill and they do dress well!

i totally agree that their style is cute, albeit a little too b52's now. funny how they made kind of a dramatic transformation from their earlier 70's romantic vibe, which i kind of preferred.

Yes to Melissa's comment up there! I actually really do love this look, but when I recently saw them in a magazine I couldn't help but think, "Wait, the last time I saw them in magazine-land they were completely decked out like hippie mamas at a Dead show, huh." Definitely a bit of a difference. Not that there's anything wrong with a style change...

haha not sure what they would think of all the "love the style, but not the music" comments.

yes, totally agree with the eyeliner comment. absolutely love the heavy eyeliner look, but not sure it looks so good in real life.

totally agreed - i went through an obsession with kings of leon as a teenager and i remember seeing these ladies open for them and thinking "hmm. this music is nothing special, they kinda seem like jerks, but damn do they ever look good." aren't they the daughters of celebrities or something?

aaanyway, i'm a new follower so hello! i look forward to enjoying your blog in the future :)

i totally agree... i love their style but, not so much their music.

it's funny because i just saw tennessee a few weeks ago at a market i was selling at in brooklyn- she picked out one of my mom's old dresses from the 60's for alexa chung, who she shopping with. they were both super sweet.

Aww, I love the Like! I've been a fan of them since they (and I) were in high school, before they got signed, dropped, then signed again, and totally transformed their sound and style. :) I'm actually really charmed by their new 60s sound, but you might like their first album, it's a little more shoegaze-y, like Mazzy Star mixed with...I don't know, something more hard rock. Their amazing style has always been part of their appeal--they've always had a bit of a 60s flavor but they did used to be more hippie rockers than mods. But I loooooooved Z's new hair! So glad you posted about them!

These retro outfits and photographs remind me totally of Alex Prager's photography. Very nice. She's one of my fav photographers!
