The Skinny Barn

Tom and I have driven by this skinny barn lots of times and every time we do, we wonder aloud what in the world it was used for. Last night we finally stopped to check it out up close. Now it's used as a haven for all sorts of birds, mostly barn swallows that have built their nests in the rafters. But its original purpose escapes me. Our best guess is that it was used as a tobacco barn where farmers hang and dry the tobacco that is commonly grown around this area. Any guesses?

That is so weird! I have no idea what that could be used for, my first thought when I saw you sitting in the doorway/opening was something to do with chickens, but I don't know much about barns to begin with. It almost looks like something from a movie set. Like it's only meant to be seen from one side.

Very nice photos! Very picturesque :)
Every time I visit your blog it arouses in me the need to escape to the countryside...Unfortunately,for the moment, I am stuck in the city...

What a fabulous building! I'm afraid I can't help you with answering what it was used for - I may be an architectural historian but I've never studied farm buildings! I think your guess is pretty good though.

You find the most interesting locations! No idea what it could be for but your guess sounds pretty good. I love the Chelsea boots with the mustard socks peeking out.

You're totally right! That is a weird barn, but I'd probably guess it was for some sort of birds too. These photos are very beautiful, by the way! I love the light coming through. And your booties are so cute!

Maybe the owner of the barn or a farmer in the neighborhood knows what the original purpose was?

That is a pretty peculiar barn hah. It looks like it might have been a storage for firewood maybe?

Very cute outfit, love the scarf!

I'm thinking corncrib. My grandparents corncrib is skinny like that, only theirs is attached to a shed.

What a completely interesting little narrow building! I love these pics. You have some of the best backdrops I've seen - you inspire me to keep searching, and to be brave and set up my camera, even if someone might see me, lol.
