It's been a bit of a sad week around here. I got word on Monday that our family dog, my canine sister, passed away suddenly over the weekend. It's always hard to lose a pet but especially so when you're so far away and didn't get a chance to say goodbye. Going home won't be the same without her stepping on my feet and waking me up by thumping her huge tail on the porch.



In other not so sad news the weather has finally warmed up enough to start wearing some of the lightweight dresses I collected over the winter. It's a small victory in the scheme of things, I know, but I'll take what I can get. Look, there's even green grass! Oh, and one of these days I'll get my shizz together enough to start doing more frequent shop updates. Until then, look out for a huge update tomorrow!

Nadinoo Spring/Summer 11

I've been anxiously awaiting the reveal of Nadinoo's spring/summer collection for weeks. I don't think another collection has captured the lightness and warmth of spring quite the way this one has. For me, all the dresses have a wonderful Easter morning nostalgia to them. Perhaps it's all the pastel colors and sweet floral prints. I also really love the model's soft, wavy hair. I think that's giving me the kick I need to keep growing mine out.

It seems that Mother Nature finally got the memo and let us have a couple of day of lovely spring weather. I'm not convinced it's going to stick around but I'll take it when I can get it. The warm days were well timed as we had guests visiting from NYC over the weekend.

We got together for brunch on Sunday at Rachel's Creperie (a must if you ever visit Lancaster). I always fill up on the Nutella hot chocolate before my crepe even arrives. Afterwards we headed up to Adamstown to visit Renninger's flea market. That place is always packed with fun things to look at but I ended up leaving empty handed. Then we stopped at the creamery in Strasburg for fresh made ice cream. They were also making fresh fudge and handing out samples. I ate so many fudge samples I ended up not even wanting any ice cream!

It was such a pretty day we took a long drive through Amish country. It's funny, but after living here for a while you get so used to seeing the Amish everywhere that you forget it's not just a normal thing to see people driving down the street in a horse and buggy. Speaking of Amish, it's a bit hard to get away with wearing a boater hat around these parts. It tends to make people wonder if you're Amish. I really like this straw hat from Steven Alan but laughed when I read that it's made in "Pennsylvania Dutch Country". In other words, I could probably buy that exact hat down the street at one of the Amish markets.

Still Waters Run Deep

TwentySeven Names seems to have perfected the art of the little white dress. Each season they offer one sweet and simple dress that is just right for summer. Their Still Waters Run Deep collection for spring/summer 11/12 offers the little white dress alongside lots of other easy to wear summery pieces. I am still on the hunt for the perfect silk blouse to button all the way to the top. I was just about to give up but this has reignited my search.

Francis May

My guiltiest pleasure of the moment; fantasy shopping at Francis May. I think if I lived in Portland I'd be stalking the racks of this store on a regular basis. I can't remember ever seeing a shop that is so perfectly curated. I want everything. Seriously. EVERYTHING. The fact that the shop is the result of a grandmother/granddaughter collaboration just makes it even sweeter.

Sessun x Urban Outfitters

Sessun falls into the category of summery clothes I always love but can never quite afford. Now they're being offered at UO as one of their designer lines. It's nice to have them more readily available, but still no dice for my pocket book. At any rate, these photos by Mariam Sitchinava for the line are quite lovely to look at. As if I didn't already have a case of spring fever!

This morning we awoke to a rather cruel April Fool's joke courtesy of Mother Nature; a light blanket of snow covering the ground. Come on Mother Nature! Do the right thing! It's time for spring already. I think my southern roots are really showing this time of year. I'm not accustomed to these long drawn-out winters. Down south I hear the temperatures are rising, the dogwoods are blooming and the grass is turning green. Well, I'm turning green with envy. I know everyone is probably tired of hearing me bitch about the weather! Sorry about that. I just know I haven't been doing many outfit posts and that sort of thing... blame it on the cold. I've sort of given up on wearing anything remotely fashionable until it gets a little warmer. So... long story short I just wanted to say things will get back to normal around here once the weather cooperates!

In the meantime, I've been spending some time with Mildred Pierce. The HBO miniseries debuted the first two parts on Sunday. While I didn't love it the way I was hoping I would, it was wonderful to look at! The set decoration and costumes were certainly the best part. Leading up to the debut HBO was running several "behind the scenes" sort of pieces. One was about the art direction and included lots of references to a photographer that inspired many of the shots in the miniseries. His name? Saul Leiter.

I'd never heard of Leiter but since I loved the look of the miniseries so much I was intrigued to see more of his work. I can definitely see the influence on Mildred Pierce. Many of the shots are done through windows; the bus, the diner, out of the Pierce home. Did any of you watch the debut of the miniseries? What did you think?
