Minnetonka Boots

Last week on Project Runway, Tim Gunn was giving some constructive criticism to finalist hopeful Chris March. Chris had included some, um, human hair (!) as trim in his collection. The ever-so-wise Tim put it this way: When you walk into the monkey house at the zoo, you think "Oh my god, it stinks in here!" But after a few minutes, it doesn't smell so bad. And then a little while later, you think it "Oh, it's really not bad in here at all." But anyone else freshly walking into the monkey house thinks, "Oh my god, it stinks in here!" Tim thought Chris had been living with his collection for too long because the horrible human hair trim had started to really look good to him.

In other words, you can get used to just about anything if you live with it for long enough. I think that's what's happening here. When I first saw people wearing the Minnetonka boots, my initial reaction was - Oh great, it's gonna be the new Ugg boot. My detest for them was not to be taken lightly. But... now I'm not so sure. I'm going to put the blame squarely on the shoulders of Miss Moss who, granted, could wear a potato sack and still look lovely. I still haven't completely made up my mind. As Heidi would say, "Are they in or are they out?"

I really wanted a pair of minnetonka's at one point, but they are just so pricey in England!

Both members of AsianCajuns own a pair of the tall, black, lace-up version because we were over-the-moon about them a year back. We thought we could do the Kate Moss and gad about in them... well, a bit tricky for the under 5'3 range I think! They tend to make me look squat unless I wear them with (kate-moss-short) shorts or leggings. We are jealous of you lucky tall ladies!

even though i've seen them on the runways and on some kids on fashion forums, i still just can't love them. they remind me of cowboys & indians.... they seem like they'd be comfortable, but they're just not my style.

these are so in!
i have a short black pair that i've been wearing constantly lately and they make every outfit i pair them with about 25% cooler automatically
can't go wrong!

I love them! I just got a high brown pair from Ebay and I can't wait till it stops raining so I can rock them!

Hi,

I'm interested in one of your items on ebay. But i'm not sure what is the pay method? Can I pay through direct credit card transfer or must I go through paypal?
Thanks. :)

Sorry, forgot to add that I'm from Singapore. :)

I must admit I have around 4 or 5 pairs, mostly actual moccasins. The moose leather is the softest leather I've ever felt!

Thanks for all your comments!

M: I do not take direct credit card payments so you must go through Paypal to pay with a credit card. Thanks for checking out the auctions!

i'm lukewarm on the subject. i can't decide myself. how about trying on a couple of pairs and seeing how you like them?

Yeah. I'd go with out! I actually think they are hids. (hideous) really, that bad.
I love the bohemian look, always have, even when Sienna Miller was killing it but I have never been able to get behind any sort of fringe. And footed fringe? Feel like sunny the gummy bear.

I'm not sure either! I've been mighty tempted, but at the same time, I don't think suede's the most practical for rainy winter weather. So I've been holding off on making a decision one way or the other, and now that it's warmer, I think I can go without.

Thanks for all the comments! I'm still on the fence. I don't think they are practical for the rain either, but they seem too warm for summer so... who knows!?

Well I must say after mulling them over in my mind (for over a year, actually) I did cave in and get a pair last year but they were a size too small and the dye came off on my hands :( i decided to size up last week when I ordered a new pair, the dye problem is still there but I do indeed love them. Pics on my blog soon! ♥ ps: love your blog!

i think the minnetonka boot looks good when it's done right. around college campuses, it's disgusting seeing the trashy girls wear them with their american apparel tees and leggins, but if somebody pairs them with a simple bohemian dress or a nice pair of skinny jeans, i'm a fan. they're not like uggs where they're simply ugly regardless of whether you attempt to assimilate an outfit with them or wear leggings with them. they are cool, just worn wrong by the wrong people.
