Vintage Finds (and that bathing suit)

We've returned safely from our adventures in Baltimore with hundreds of photos to sift through, a task which I've only just begun. I'm so excited to share them with you as soon as I get them organized. More on that later. Right now I'd like to show you some of my favorite vintage finds of the last couple of weeks.

  • I'm not much of a "bag" girl. I've never been concerned with carrying whatever is the "it bag" of the moment. I couldn't even tell you what bag is "it" right now. I tend to pick one simple vintage bag and carry it until it falls apart. I'd like to mix it up a bit. I'm going to try carrying one of these little clutches for nights out. The 50's woven bag and the blue structured bag will be perfect for days when I need to tote lots of stuff around.
  • The shoes are just a smidgen big but nothing a couple of thick insoles won't take care of. It's 90 degrees outside and I'm already thinking about wearing them with tights this autumn.
  • The little gold toned rose earrings were just too sweet to pass up.

  • And then of course there are the clothes...

    • First is a little vintage lace jacket/shrug thingy that I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to wear. I think it would work over a dress or even with jeans and a tank top.
    • Did you know that Diane von Furstenberg used to make children's clothes? Well, I didn't! I discovered that fact when I found this little DVF dress. Yes, it's technically a child's dress but it's perfect for a small adult. Look for it in the store this week.
    • I'm not exactly sure what era this navy and cream dress is from. It has the look and feel of a dress from the 40's but it could have been made as a "retro" dress in the 60's. Either way, it's a real gem. It has an open seam down the back and the attached belt is navy on one side and cream on the other so when you tie it in a bow you can see both colors. It'll be in the store this week as well.
    • Last but not least here is a shot of the bathing suit I mentioned in my last post. I tried to take a photo that would do it justice, but I'm just not sure that's possible. Hopefully you get the idea. :)

I totally see that lace jacket over a skintight black long-sleeved top and dark jeans, or even a pencil skirt...

That blue structured bag is amazing. That would look amazing as a day bag with your new DVF dress!

oo the straw bag is so cute, kinda vintage traveler, i love the romantic rose pin, and the shoes are practical, but sassy haha

despite how you don't know how to wear the lace yet, I like buying things that perplex me sometimes. it's nice to be forced to be creative sometimes. i think i also enjoy the buying without purpose because my mother has this irritating shopping habit, where if she buys a skirt or something she needs a top just for said skirt, regardless of whether she has 80 tops that could go with said skirt blegh haha

I'm currently into shaped (hat?) bag like the blue one, I bought one, red trough Ebay and hopefully it will come today or tomorrow.
The lace bolero is fab! So perfect over a retro dress or even a modern tank.
...Not to mention the blue/white dress and the bathing suit :-)

The shoes are perfect! That dress is a awesome example of era-less, classic vintage. You could probably make it look like it was from any decade.

oh wow, that bathing suit is delightful!
the little lace shrug would be perfect over a little dark coloured dress on summer evenings, for example! lace is very popular on the runway this season, making it the perfect accompaniment to almost any outfit! its very pretty.
as for the bags, they're beautiful! i have never been a bag person either, but recently picked up a sweet little leather bag and have hardly put it down since!

Ooooh I can't wait to see all your finds! Man, i wish I knew where to go to find treasures like you. That bathing suit is just divine! I've always wanted one like that. What is it with all these high cut bathing suits now? There is no need. We should go back to the old look.
I have a question: how much money do you typically spend on your vintage treasures? I am never sure what is too much money, especially for a collector like myself, and since you are even more of a collector than me, I thought you might know!
    ps. you've been tagged!

    Thanks so much everyone!

You've given me some good ideas on how to wear that little lace bolero (thanks alicepleasance, that's the word I was looking for). I'm sure you'll see it mixed in here soon.

vintage vinyl: I guess how much you're willing to spend depends on your own budget and how much you really love something. Sometimes it's nice to get lots of cheaper things from a thrift store but every now and then splurge on a really classic piece.

So Crazy, I have that exact vintage blue suitcase/purse. It's so great and odd to think there's more of them floating around. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

I suspect the DVF dress is the result of a licensing agreement Diane made with another manufacturer. In her biography, she talks about how for awhile, she sold her name to all all kinds of liscensees and then eventually decided to come up with money to buy them all back so she could have total control over her brand again.

Wow! Dear, I've got exactly the SAME bag! The blue one. And a matching suitcase. Those might be twins that have been seperated ages ago. How funny. How funny. Funny... I'll post about it. Promised!
