1930's Separates

For years I've been a dress girl. It always seems like the easiest way to get ready to go out is to throw on a dress and run out the door. There's no mixing or matching and dresses always seem more comfortable than pants. But lately I've been leaning more towards separates: skirts and blouses that is. Right now what I'd really like to find are pretty tops like these from the 20's and 30's to mix and match with skirts. It occurred to me that all of these examples are knits so perhaps a knitting class is in order. This coming from a girl that once attempted to knit a scarf... an attempt that resulted in one long wonky scarf that never saw the light of day. I don't think it's my forte. So... I suppose I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that I'll get lucky an find something at a vintage store or flea market instead. It doesn't seem to me that many of these types of pieces have survived the years so I'm afraid I may be on the hunt for quite some time. But I suppose that's half the fun!Untitled-1

Ahh! Funnily enough, I've been inclined towards skirts as well these days! Especially longer skirts, which I think might be a reaction to the cold weather!

These knits are beautiful. I particularly like the sunburst knit. It reminds me of an Egyptian necklace.

Though they're not vintage, I think some of the knit tops from Heritage81 looks really good and have that certain vintage vibe...hope this doesn't sounds "outrageous"!! Unfortunately I can judge only by pictures cause I don't have access to Heritage81...they still doesn't ships to Italy, so I can't check the quality and the whole real thing :-(

These are beautiful. I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but Fleur de Guerre of 'Diary of a Vintage Girl' did an amazing post on vintage-style knits:

You can buy the book online if you're a knitter and make them yourself! (I'm dreadful at knitting, sadly).

Those patterns are incredible. Those pics kind of make me want to learn how to knit.

I've never been able to make outfits I like with skirts, so I'd love to see what you come up with for ideas! As a jeans and t-shirt person, it would be really inspiring...

Those sweaters are all so amazing! I really need to try to find more separates as well - dresses just always seem like an easier package. :)

These sweaters would be great to mix with skirts. I prefer separates to dresses as I can get more variety out of the pieces.

I LOVE these old knits. For the last few months I've been after more skirts+tops (though have somehow managed to get plenty of dresses, too :) ) and have just had some luck... now I just need some cooler weather!
