Four Ways: 60s Suit

[3]

I ran across this Irish wool 60s suit at one of my favorite vintage spots a couple of weeks ago and couldn't resist the amazing fall colors. When I got home, I put it on and looked in the mirror. Much to my disappointment, I looked too much like I was wearing a 60s costume - nothing modern about it. The colors that were so beautiful hanging on the rack were now completely overwhelming. Dismayed, I hung it in my closet where it's been teasing me ever since. So here's a little look at what I did to break up the pieces.

[2]

  • First I paired the skirt with my go-to combination: a belted cardigan and boots (with a beret, of course). T-shirt: James Perse, cardigan: thrifted Abercrombie, boots, belt & beret: vintage, purse: vintage John Romain
  • For a casual everyday sort of outfit, I paired the jacket with jeans and boots. Sweater: H&M, jeans: Superfine, scarf: H&M, boots & beret: vintage, purse: vintage Coach

  • Next I paired the jacket with a simple black mini dress, a slouchy cardigan, tights and boots. This is my version of comfortable. Dress: H&M, boots, cardigan & beret: vintage, purse: vintage Coach
  • Last I paired the skirt with a short sleeved sweater and big scarf. Sweater: vintage cashmere, scarf: H&M, beret: vintage, shoes: Seychelles, purse: vintage

Great looks! The suit pieces are stunning as separates, and look very different then when paired together. I love when bloggers show different ways to wear the same item.

wow, this is seriously inspirational for me. these are all such beautiful styles. it really renews my interest in finding a nice vintage suit. i think i had the same hesitation that you had, but these are the perfect solution!!!

i just love how you broke up the separates-- the top two looks are my favorite. in the top right photo, you can barely tell that it's a vintage jacket, which just shows that you picked a real gem and made it modern.

I adore the colors in your suit, being partial to that palette myself, however I can see what you mean when the suit is worn alone. I love each of the four looks.
Re last post: Long hair can sometimes be too long if you know what I mean. It does nothing for the shape of a person's face. It suits you at the length you presently wear it.

i love all four looks! i have a vintage 50s/60s pendleton skirt suit that i have to break up similarly. it's just waaaaaaaay too much look to be worn together.

Works very well as separates! I can see why it would be a bit much worn together, though. :-)

Gorgeous! I love the mixes, but I would definitely be tempted to wear it as a suit!

As a plaid fanatic I could never have passed on the suit either, but your creative use of separates is even better than the fab suit alone. I love that you wore it with black tights, I would have chosen brown out of habit, but that black is the best! Love the booties, too. I may have to hang you up in my closet to push me to play with my plaids instead of wearing them in the same old boring ways.

The color is nice but I am not loving the fit of the jacket. Maybe it needs tailoring? Skirt looks better.
