A Warm Day

s

- 50s Betty Barclay wool sailor dress
- AA tights
- thrifted belt
- 80s ankle boots
- vintage wool beret
- vintage Gladstone bag
- vintage silk scarf
- 60s wool cableknit sweater from my shop (somebody snatch it up before I keep it!)

Yesterday I dare say it was actually warm! Well warm-ish. It's sad to say that 44 degrees feels warm after weeks of freezing temperatures but I'll take it! I was finally able to make it out of the house without thirteen layers of sweaters and scarves so I stopped off at one of my favorite spots to snap a couple of photos of my outfit. I'll try to do so more regularly if the weather will continue to cooperate.

This week I also made it out to the Salvation Army (on half off day - what a zoo!) and scored a bunch of 60s mini dresses that will make their way into the shop next week. I was also finding a lot of craziness and I was having the hardest time telling if it was good-crazy or just plain crazy! I came to the conclusion that someone needs to create a "should I buy this?" app for iPhones (not that I have an iPhone... I don't have a cell phone at all). Theoretically, all I'd have to do is snap a photo of something, it would automatically upload to my blog and you gals could tell me if I should buy it! It would work, right?! Right?!

One final note... last night I was hanging out with a few friends who decided my outfit made me look like a Mennonite flight attendant. So now I'm always going to think of this dress as my Mennonite flight attendant dress. Only in Lancaster!

I have more photos of insane thrift store finds (giant light up jesus statues, xxxxl windbreakers printed with dollar bills, etc etc) on my phone than anything other thing.

(love that dress!)

I love this outfit! Everything blends together wonderfully without being too matchy.

As for the "Should I Buy This?" thing, there's a site you should check out, www.fashism.com It's based on a similar idea.

i can't believe black and brown was such a taboo for so long. i think the two are lovely together, expecially when its a light brown or tan like here. and i love the way the outfit comes together with the cardigan. mmm thick knits..

Just LOVE your dress, which I think is the furthest thing from Mennonite or flight attendant you can get! Anywhoo, just love the setting and the light, too. I really need to work on spicing up my own outfit posts. Thanks for being a constant inspiration. PS: TOTALLY would love that iPhone app. You should patent it!

I understand thinking that anything in the 40's is warm at this point. I didn't feel the need to layer up today.
Either way lovely looks here :')

love the dress! its funny that your friends said you looked like a flight attendant! you so dont! but if it makes ya feel any better, when I was wearing one of my fav 40s dresses ever I was told I looked like a waitress. One old man at the place I worked actually asked me for coffee! haha

A while back I bought a fifties inspired dress from a local vintge shop. I've never worn it. Why? Because one of our male friends made a comment about "that bit of old curtain".

I think this might be one of my favourite outfits of yours I've seen yet! That dress and the boots are beyond darling. The whole look is just perfect. :)

LOVE the sailor dress (and the idea of you being a mennonite flight attendant, so funny)! a "should I buy this" iphone app is definitely something that should exist.

I've always been a fan of this color palette! And if there was an should-i-buy-this app for iphones I would probably abuse it to death... Sometimes, althought I know from experience I am the best judge on my own, it feels so good to have feedback on something you see in store from someone else than your own voices...eh, voice...

Helga said...

Fantastic look.Again.

This outfit is charming. I like everything.

Ernie said...

Aghh, I think I would actually buy an I-phone if such an app existed, justifying my kabillion dollar purchase by thinking of all the money a definitive vote of "no!" would save me.

And Mennonite or not, you look just lovely :]

Jezza said...

Your outfit is lovely! I'm particularly fond of the scarf. (:
I envy the snow-less ground in your photos.

I agree with all the comments. This outfit is a major win.

Regarding the instant advice app, you should check out Fashism. Like Sarah Louise Walker said, you can just send a pic to import@fashism.com from any phone and get instant feedback on if you should buy something or not. You can even sync it to your twitter. Ok, sorry to plug, but you should check it out!
