One of my favorite things to do when we lived in LA was wake up early on Sunday morning and walk to the Fairfax Flea Market. I do miss having a flea market within walking distance! I nearly always came home with a vintage dress or some sort of trinket. I made sure to keep our Sunday morning free for this trip so I could return to the flea market.

It was a beautiful day and lovely to be outside. Sadly the flea market did not live up to all my expectations. It was mostly cut-off blue jeans and hemmed polyester dresses. I did find one lovely 40s cotton dress but I knew by looking it wouldn't fit me so I didn't even ask about a price. I didn't buy anything for myself but managed to find some souvenirs for friends back home. The best thing we found all day was that adorable little pup chillin' by his owner's stand and soaking in the sun.

everytime i go to the flea market I end up making friends with a dog or two as well! this one has such a cute little face and you can tell he is loving the attention.

Aw! That puppy is just adorable! I hear that lots of flea markets have denim cut offs and hemmed dresses also. It makes me wish there were other things that they were selling and not just to market to the trend. :(

Since you love vintage clothing might I suggest the PCC Flea Market if you find yourself in the area. That and the Santa Monica Airport Flea Market. You can always email me for a list of great local shops too! Ha ha

When I lived in LA I never made it to that flea market but I would on occasion wake up to go to Jet Rag for the dollar sales but gosh dang, people get COMPETITIVE. Scary competitive. Lesson learned: go in the afternoons when it is way more mellow :)

i hate disappointing flea markets! the worst! same with overpriced thrift stores and badly advertised estate sales!

at least you made friend with that adorable dog, and the dress you wore was cute! :)

why why why do they hem all those lovely polyester dresses?! What a waste!!! The short vintage dress with leggings look will be over (already is?) and we'll have hardly any normal length dresses left. Sigh.

Does this infuriate anyone else?!

Lovely pictures. I love going to flea markets. What a pity there aren't so many in my region.

My favorite flea market to go to when I lived in L.A. was the PCC market in Pasadena but if I was jonesing for vintage I'd hit Fairfax.

I actually found quite a few goodies on my last trip to the Fairfax Market in May 2010 including 1940s jackets & 1960s leather bags. Sad to hear it wasn't fruitful when you went.

hahahaha thats gonzo!!! He's a sweetie :) Some friends of mine run that booth.

i think its the LA heat that causes everything to get cut really short. If you've ever gone to the desert in a long polyester dress you could understand the urge to take a pair of scissors to it. (no leggings neccessary!!) It can certainly be a shame in some cases, though.

i discovered this flea market while searching on the web places to visit for our roadtrip. when we have been in us this summer we visited LA and i thought there wouldn't be anymore time to visit this place, but then, lost with the car, we just came across and i got like crazy! it has been such a lovely experience!! :D
