May Wish List
a look from Bleubird Vintage, AA floppy felt hat, sandals via Etsy (these are on their way to me!)
It's been a while since I've done any sort of wish list. Honestly there just hasn't been that much that's caught my eye or made me feel like I want to part with my hard earned dollars. But the warmer weather is bringing out the hippie chick in me and I'm beginning to crave loose flowing dresses, tooled leather accessories and chunky wooden heels.
I think I've finally figured out a way to wear the floral grunge revival dresses that I love but make me feel a bit too much like I'm back in high school. Paired with 70s accessories they come off a bit more hippie than grunge which fits my mood perfectly right about now.

Take me to the place where you go where nobody knows...

When we were out taking these photos I spotted that old broken down truck and thought it would be the perfect place to plop down and take a few shots. Little did I know that the location had already been claimed... by a huge nest of yellow wasps! In that last photo, my left hand is about three inches from the nest. Ick! Once I spotted the nest we quickly moved out of the way and left the wasps to do their thing.
When it came time to edit the photos, I kept wondering, "what in the world is that on my leg?" Upon closer inspection I realized that Tom had unwittingly perfectly captured one of the wasps mid-flight to the nest! Click here to see the super-duper close up! Ha, ha!

Etsy Update: Maxed Out
I don't usually go for maxi dresses but somehow I've ended up with a lovely collection of them from the 60s and 70s. That first one fits me and is oh-so-tempting to keep! But I'm going to be good and add it to the Etsy shop along with all the others.

Nadinoo at Work
I was so excited to discover these photos of Nadia from Nadinoo at work in her studio via The Cupcake Diary. They are originally from This is Naive, part of a wonderful series she's doing about people at work. The clothes from the Nadinoo line are infinitely drool worthy and always something I look forward to seeing each season.
I've been designing collections in my head since about the third grade but I've never figured out exactly how to get them out of my head and into 3D. I love getting this behind the scenes peek into the world of someone who has realized a way to make that happen!

Sally Scott S/S 2010
I have to admit that as much as I liked Sally Scott's A/W collection and their Harry Potter-esque moving picture lookbook, I had kind of forgotten about this label until I saw a post about their S/S collection on the Nadinoo blog. I think being from Japan and completely inaccessible in the States (as far as I can tell) had something to do with that.
I'm not as crazy about the lookbook this time around. I think I would prefer to see these light, spring pieces outdoors. I know the whole "pretty girl in a pretty dress in a pretty field" photos are commonplace these days and perhaps a bit repetitive but it just seems like these dresses deserve better than being locked in some suburban looking home! From what I gather (there's not too much English on the site), the above photos and the accompanying video feature some of the spring pieces while the individual product shots are the newer summer pieces? I'm just assuming this since none of the dresses in the video are the ones pictured for sale on the site and vice versa. Any Japanese readers are welcome to clear this up for me. ;)
Anyhoo... translation issues aside, I'm really loving the summer (?) stuff! Wearing simple summer dresses with flats and a tote bag sounds wonderful right now. That straw bag with the embroidered birds reminds me of the hex signs you see on Amish barns around Lancaster County!

I'm here for adventure, whichever way it comes...
- striped 60s shirt dress
- brown 80s flats
- vintage John Romain purse
- thrifted braided belt
- Jakob Dylan - Women & Country "Nothing But the Whole Wide World"
You can tell I'm not longer accustomed to taking my own blog photos. Thus the sort of concerned/pissed-off look on my face in these snapshots. There were quite a few people out walking and enjoying the nice weather in the park, so I had quite a few curious onlookers wondering what the crazy girl with the tripod was doing running around taking photos of herself.
Spring seems to be coming and going right now, one day being nice and sunny and the next being rainy and dull. The rain is wreaking a bit of havoc on our home renovations but I think the light is at the end of the tunnel (did I say that last week too?).
P.S. If you're interested, I did a little interview over at La Mimi. You can see it here.

No. 6
Cute and comfy spring looks from No. 6. I especially love the two dresses above. These photos also remind me I need to wear my oxfords with dresses more often. I can also add these photos to the "grow-hair-grow!" stack that's piling up on my computer. And also maybe the "going back to my natural blond" pile? We'll see.

I'm not exactly sure what the story is behind these photos. Are the for a magazine? A catalog? Anyone know? I just know that I loved them the second I saw them. Pretty gals? Pretty clothes? Abandoned building? Check, check and check.

How was your weekend? All was well here. We had a little rain and a little sunshine. At least the rain washed away some of the pollen that's been making me sneeze non-stop. We're still living in a huge cloud of construction dust as our home improvements keep dragging on and on. Maybe by the end of the week I can stop waking up to the sound of pounding hammers? Maybe?
Last night Tom and I had plans to go for a long walk them come home to cook dinner and watch a movie. I've been refusing to leave the house if it's less than 50 degrees outside. Come on spring! We checked the weather and luckily it was 51! A walk was taken but by the time we got home neither of us felt much like cooking and I was too sleepy (see above being woken by hammers) to watch a movie. So... it turned into glorified ramen noodles with edamame for dinner and old episodes of The Wire (I can barely follow that show).

UO UK
Seeing these photos from the UK UO Flickr page makes me:
a) want to sit around in a field all day and pet horses.
b) think I need to buy a Fuji Instax camera.
c) wonder why the UO UK always seem infinitely better than the US one.

twenty-seven names
If there are any gaps in my spring wardrobe, they come in the form of navy and white polka dots (can't get enough of those right now) and a little white dress. It seems that twenty-seven names has the answer to both of those.
I especially like the little white dresses. That's a piece of my wardrobe that has eluded me for some time now. Every one I find ends up making me feel a bit too precious, if you know what I mean. I don't know... wearing all white always makes me feel a bit conspicuous. That and I know it won't be long before I've spilled something all down the front. But somehow I think I could make an exception for one of these.

Lay down, sleep my little darling I'll be nothing when you're gone..
- 60s Leslie Fay bird print wrap dress
- 80s navy wedge espadrilles
- vintage Coach purse
- listening to: Priestess - Hello Master
So, here is the bird print dress that I was referring to just the other day. I'm afraid in the photos it may not come across as a bird print, but rather some abstract blue and white design. If you look closely you'll see that it's actually little white birds sitting on a wire.
I also want to take a moment to let you know that one of my generous sponsors would like to offer a discount to all of my readers! Be sure to stop by Revolving Styles and check out her lovely vintage dresses. If something catches your eye, just send her a convo with the words "Sally Jane" and she'll give you 10% your purchase.

Flickr Faves
I'm always on the prowl for great vintage photos on Flickr and lately there seems to be no end to the wonderful discoveries I've found. Some real gems! Jessica came across the most amazing set of vintage photos at an antique store and was such a doll to scan them all to share with the ol' internets. They're seriously some of the best vintage photos I've even laid eyes on! I sort of want to spend my whole summer hanging out on a tree branch by the lake with a couple of gal pals. Then there's the 1935-1944 set that I discovered through Francesca. And of course there are a couple from old fave mrwaterslide who always has something interesting to look at.

Bird Prints
Super adorable Behati Prinsloo
Would it be terrible to start this post by saying bird prints are really taking off? Flying of the shelves? Har, har, har! Yep, pretty terrible. Perhaps instead we should begin by discussing how frickin' adorable Behati Prinsloo is in her bird cage print dress and Where the Wild Things Are crown . That just may go down as one of the best prints I've ever spotted. According to the photo credit it's a vintage dress so there's no luck getting my hands on one. Wah-wah.
Usually if I end up in a print, which is not too often I think, it's a floral one or perhaps a classic stripe. But bird prints are quickly becoming a favorite. It seems I'm not the only one; there's The Clothes Horse in her Modcloth dress and The Glamourai in her amazing Hayden Harnett dress.
Luella, Miss Selfridge, Kate Moss for Topshop
I think my favorite version of the print are the simple black and white ones. The Miss Selfridge one is tempting me. There's something a bit dark and Hitchcockian about the swirling flocks that offsets the sweet silhouette of the dress. Looking at these reminds me that I just found a bird-on-a-wire wrap dress at a local vintage shop that I need to wear soon. I think I also have an old bird print Urban Outfitters dress hanging in the back of my closet somewhere. Shop my closet, right?!
