Spats

Untitled-1
When I saw this photo from The Sartorialist pop up on my Bloglovin’ list, I was instantly captivated. I love seeing how other people wear their vintage. The girl on the left has the perfect autumn color pallet and that dress…oh that dress! The girl (should I say lady? woman?) on the right has found a way to dress in all black without being the least bit boring. When I first glanced at the photo I was drawn to what appeared to be a pair of military style boots with snaps or buttons up the side. Upon closer inspection I realized that they are not boots but a pair of what seem to be t-strap heels covered with a pair of spats. Hmmm. I’m intrigued. I was considering ways to try this out myself when I suddenly remembered that ages ago I had bookmarked this page. That particular pair doesn’t seem to be available any longer but the seller (Straight Razor Slasher Designs) says to convo her for custom orders.

Oh my goodness the woman on the left- her hair, her dress, her bag!
When I first read the word "spats" and saw this photo I thought someone had done a whole fashion shoot featuring people arguing on the street!

Ah ah, I saved that photo immediately and I'm intrigued by spats. Look at this Etsy store http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5588912 (look at the sold items)

Love spats! Almost bought a pair from the vintage show last week, but they were too ladylike for me.

I have a military canvas pair I got in Paris. They are not as tall or fit as snuggly as the ones in photo. I've been saving them for a photoshoot, but now think I'll start wearing them instead :)

I've been drooling over military spats for ages! Ever since I was 16... wow, that's a few more years than I'd like to admit. Anyway. Thanks for the link to those Victorian spats, this is amazing! Maybe my life-long dream is finally within my grasp...

Wow, the redhead in the fur looks incredible, straight out of the 1940's but modern at the same time, the whole outfit is beyond stunning. Bravo Sally-Jane what a materpiece to feature on your wonderful website.

I was so excited a few yrs ago when I ordered spats, sadly they were too small on my calves! arg.

those spats are pretty amazing, but the shoes shes wearing underneath are no doubt a pair of silverado Chloe platform oxfords. I would know because I still have dreams about them even if they are 3 years old.

I'm in love with the outfit on the right. The little bit of color in the heels totally makes the outfit.

I love the idea of spats, but they're always more expensive than I'm willing to pay. Check out Susie Bubble's blog. Her current post is also spat related.

Thanks so much for all of the comments and the links. I guess if I decide to buy a pair I have lots to choose from.

AlicePleasance: Good eye! I'm sure that's the same girl. She can really pull off a pair of spats, can't she?!

I have a pair of legwarmers that are not nearly as slick as these spats...I really need to sport them with a skirt already...
