Lady Moriarty in Paris

If there's one person who is giving me a case of closet envy these days it is Lady Moriarty in Paris.  She has that Parisian-quirkiness-meets-tomboy thing going on that seems like it would be easy, but is somehow anything but.

I couldn't resist posting a few of the images from the new Mayflower Supply Co. fall lookbook.  It's such a huge and admirable undertaking to open a new online shop.  I wish these lovely ladies all the best of luck!  If the first set of images is any indication, they're going to do just fine!

Boots & Pine: Emily Theobald

boots & pine A

I love these photos of Emily Theobald (of It Girl Rag Doll) on Boots & Pine.  She's got that Brooklyn bohemian vibe down!  I remember Emily as one of the first gals I noticed back in the early days of Wardrobe Remix (remember that?!).  Now I see her popping up all over the place;  from Refinery 29 hair tutorials to the Mayflower Supply Co lookbook that Erin posted yesterday.

The Same But Different

Untitled-2
photos from my Pinterest

We are having unseasonably cold weather (after last week's unseasonably warm weather) and last night was the first time I've put on a pair of tights since last winter.  We're now officially back to the land of layering. I wasn't quite prepared for the thought of wearing tights again so I looked through my Fall/Winter Pinterest board, in order to remind myself of what an outfit that involves layers looks like!  As I was skimming over the photos, I happened to notice these pairs of images featuring the same gals twice.

I really like how they show the advantages of finding a silhouette that works for you and reusing the pieces in your closet.  The photos above feature the exact same outfit with only the accessories changing.  The photos below show some of the pieces being reused while creating a new outfit with the same silhouette.  I'm definitely going to keep this in mind while thinning out my closet for the season.

Editorial

Arizona Muse by Tom Craig for Vogue Russia May 2013.

I'm not usually one for keeping tabs on the editorial spreads in major glossy magazines. In fact, I rarely flip through one at all unless I'm on an airplane.  I never board an airplane without an armload of guilty pleasure magazines!  But this one featuring Arizona Muse in Vogue Russia hits just the right notes for me;  good clothes, simple styling and a location that has me wanted to pack my bags for vacation right away.

Winter Looks

These days have been so cold and damp that I've barely wanted to leave the house.  These lovely ladies are reminding me that there's hope to leave the house looking stylish rather than buried under a pile of layers with warmth as my only concern.

I Will Wait For You There

Pretty much everything Leith Clark lays her hands on is gold in my eyes, so it's no surprise that the editorial she styled in the new issue of Lula, I Will Wait For You There, is a new favorite.  Looking at these editorials always makes me want to seek out more opportunities to try my hand at styling.

Travel Wardrobe

a

As soon as I saw these photos from the Madewell spring lookbook, all shot in Paris, I instantly thought about our upcoming trip and the fact that I'm going to be packing two weeks worth of clothes into one small bag.  Doesn't this looks like the perfect mix-n-match wardrobe?  Lots of easy layers, neutral colors and flat shoes for walking.  Now if only I could figure out how to braid my hair like that!

The Locals

a

In my collection of street style photos I recently noticed a trend that several of the photos came from The Locals, formerly Copenhagen Streetstyle. So many street style sites feature a lot of, I don't know what you would call it... edgy looks?  You know, all black, lots of studded everything, sky high heels, that sort of thing.  That's all well and good, just not my thing per se.  So it's nice to find a site that features looks that I relate to and can feel inspired by.  What are your favorite street style sites?

Street Style Favorites

You may have noticed a lack of outfit photos on the blog lately.  I just haven't felt much like stepping in front of the camera.  I'm sure it's a phase and it will pass but until then, rest assured that I'm still getting dressed on a daily basis.  Ha, ha.  When I'm feeling a bit stuck and I'm not quite sure what to wear, I often consult the "outfit favorites" folder on my computer for inspiration.  These are some of my favorite favorites right now: lots of neutral colors, layering, longer length skirts and ankle boots.  That pretty much sums up what I've been wearing.

Delightful Feather Dress

dd
photos: Orchid Grey, Selective Potential, Here's Lookin' at Me Kid, A Thought is the Blossom

I'm sequestering myself in the house this week to try to catch up on lots of work I've neglected over the summer months. That means no outfits posts and no internet browsing looking for interesting things to post about. Instead I'll point you in the direction of a lovely group of ladies known as the Delightful Dozen. I was so excited to see them passing around a dress that I sold in my Etsy shop. As a vintage seller, most of the time you never get to see the items you pass along in their new surroundings. It's a lot of fun to see this feather print dress being worn by so many stylish ladies.

Here's some fun, summer time photos from Cliche Magazine. Doesn't it seem like there are more and more good online magazines these days? I guess that's a good thing since they're accessible to anyone with an internet connection and there's no paper waste. These remind me of wandering around in the woods in Alabama and the sort of simple outfits I'd like to be wearing this summer.

Founders & Followers

a

When you visit Founders & Followers you're greeted with the following options: shop fashion, shop art, atelier, editorial. There's a little bit of everything all in one place. I'm partial to the "shop fashion" part, of course. I love the simple styling and muted palette of the outfits featured in the shop.

But then I'm also drawn into art section with work by Esra Roise and Marie Molterer and the atelier section with behind the scenes looks at the workshop of designers such as Bodkin. And then there's the editorial section with a shoot styled with pieces from designers such as Samantha Pleet, Rachel Antonoff and TBA.

A Cautionary Tale

Emily_Current-05-full
from the closet of Emily Current via The Covetuer

I know I'm not alone in my love of white lacy dresses, even if I don't actually wear them very often. What is it about those pieces that tug at our heartstrings? Anytime I try to wear one, I end up feeling a bit too precious and afraid that I'm going to spill something all over myself. Unfortunately my luck in the lacy white dress department has been running a bit thin lately. A cautionary tale...

When we took our trip to LA, we were trying to avoid checking bags so I shipped a box of clothes (including a couple of my favorite white dresses) to our friend's house where we would be staying. All was well, I wore a couple of the dresses while we were there (photos to come) and when it was time to come home, I packed them into their box to ship them back. I was confident that we would beat the boxes home by a day so I would be there to accept them when they were delivered but the post office used some sort of super sonic coast to coast delivery system because the box ended up beating us home by a day.

Rather than leave a notice on the door or try redelivering the next day the postman just tossed the box over our gate and left it on the sidewalk. In the pouring rain. Ugh! By the time I discovered the box, it was soaked through. Rainwater poured out of the corners when I picked it up. My heart sank! I knew what I would find when I opened the box but I was hoping against hope that everything would be OK. What I found was a pile of sopping wet dresses, the dyes all running onto one another. After a good old-fashioned foot-stomping hissy fit I calmed down to assess the damage; three white vintage dresses (including a 30s chiffon one I bought in LA and hadn't even taken off the tags) that looked like they'd been badly tie-dyed. Double ugh!

No amount of soaking has lifted the dyes so I think I'll be investing some time in a Rit bath for them soon. I just have to decide what color to go with. Who knows, maybe I'll wear them more once they're not so pristine looking. I knew I should have wrapped the clothes in a plastic bag before shipping them and have no real reason why I didn't. Lesson learned! The hard way.

LA Inspiration

a
all photos from Mr. Newton

Soon enough Tom and I will be a mile high and on our way to sunny Los Angeles. It will be our first visit to LA since we left three years ago. I can't believe it's been that long since we lived there! We'll be catching up with lots of friends, visiting all our old favorite restaurants, hitting up the Griffith Observatory (it was closed for renovations while we lived there) and just generally chilling out for a week. Of course I'll also be doing a tour of all my favorite vintage shops that I miss. And perhaps the best part... spending a night out in the desert!

I'm pretty excited, if you haven't gathered that already. I've been collecting images of things I'd like to wear while I'm there. Outfits that just seem a bit out of place in Lancaster or ones it's just been too dang cold to wear! All of these photos were snapped over the weekend at Coachella and are just the sorts of things I'll be packing. That second one on Tali Lennox is pretty much my LA dream outfit. And unless I'm crazy, she's wearing this dress. Perhaps I'll have to make that dream a reality.

Wishing I Was There...

a
Via Rag Pony... Photographer: Chelsea Jade Metcalf, Styling: Emma Gleason, Model: Gina Morissey

Today I had big plans of shooting spring pieces with a couple of friends modeling but our plans were hampered by... more snow! Everyone was snowed in so the day didn't quite go as hoped. I did, however, get quite a bit of work done and I think I've got the new look for the Etsy updates down pat. I'm sure I'll tweak it a bit as I go but I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with today. I'll reveal it on the blog soon!

While I was working away in my office, I was secretly dreaming about being somewhere like this. Green grass, blue skies, little white dresses and bare legs. It looks just about perfect!

Babes in the Woods

1

As soon as I saw these photos on Anja's blog I knew they'd be one of those things that spreads like wildfire through the blogging world. The editorial, aptly called Babes in the Woods, was styled by Charlotte Stokes and photographed by Candice Meyer. I instantly set about Google stalking both of them to find more of their work. One of my goals for the next year is to try my hand at styling so I'm devouring all the inspiration I can get my hands on. This one is definitely going in the file!

Street Style Favorites

a
photos from Stockholm Street Style, Vanessa Jackman, Hel-looks, Blushing Ambition

I have to admit that since returning from my trip, I'm finding it hard to want to wear anything but pajamas. When I flew to Alabama I didn't want to check a bag so I packed really light; just one dress, a pair of jeans, a few sweaters and one pair of boots. Even with packing light, I spent as much time as possible lounging around in my pajamas. Isn't that what vacations are for?

I dug up some of my favorite recent street style shots to inspire me to get back into my closet and actually start getting dressed again. I'm seeing a bit of a pattern here... lots of capes, lots of brown, navy and black, brown shoes with black tights. I think I can, I think I can...

Living the Dream!

a
photos from Float Away Studios

Have you gals seen this? How amazing! A vintage store and sweet shop all-in-one run by two adorable vintage lovin' sister! I'm really blown away at just how perfect it all is. It's so inspiring to see two young ladies living out such a dream job. The store features things for ladies, men and the little ones so no one is left out. And you can treat yourself to some bubble tea or a cupcake while you're at it.

Be sure to check out A Beautiful Mess and From Scratch, the blogs of these lovely ladies for tons of more photos from the shop and behind the scenes action. Road trip anyone?!
