For today's photography spotlight I'd like to indulge in a little shameless self promotion, if you don't mind. Here are the results of my very first styling project, a collaboration with Amber Danese Grandfield and Sarah. You may remember from this post that when I was planning the shoot I was watching a lot of Boardwalk Empire so I had the 20s heavily on my mind, but at the same time a lot of 70s inspired spring lookbooks were coming out so I think some of that got thrown into the mix as well.
I think my favorite piece from the set is that black semi-sheer skirt which I found a thrift store the day before shoot! I layered it over my Fletcher for Lyell tap shorts and it looked amazing on Sarah. It's one of those outfits that I love to put together but doubt that I'd be brave enough to wear out in public. If you'd like, you can see more of the photos here.

I hope you don't mind a very abbreviated text on today's post. I'm enjoying being outside way too much to be on the computer for very long these days. I spent all day yesterday with my hands in the dirt and I couldn't have been happier. Hopefully today will bring more of the same.

Need Supply Co.
I'm sure I've run across Need Supply Co. before in my internet searches but I always sort of blew it off as another pricey boutique shop that I shouldn't linger over and torture myself with lovely things I can't afford. When I ran across their carefree spring lookbook photos I knew if was time to finally check out the shop. I was so pleasantly surprised to see some really cute affordable pieces right along side the Band of Outsiders and A.P.C. pieces. I especially love this lace crop top (if you'd told me I'd type that sentence a year ago, I'd have said you were crazy) and this classic striped dress.

Monday Monday
photos by Tom b.
- thrifted Ecote dress
- vintage Bass penny loafers
- UO boater hat
Wow, it feels like just yesterday I was writing a Monday post. Somehow, this past week completely disappeared. The weekend was lovely with a little sunshine during the days and lots of storms at night. I love sleeping to the sound of thunder. I even saw my first dogwood blooming which got me super excited. Tomorrow I'm finally getting outside to plant the hostas and astilbes I've been hoarding since early spring. I've already transplanted the snow peas I started inside to the garden. I can't wait for the day I can fill my plate with veggies grown in our own backyard! OK, enough with boring you with my gardening. ;)
Over the weekend (or was it late last week... it's really all running together), I made a quick stop at a local Salvation Army while I was running errands to see if I could snag anything for the shop. While I was browsing the skirt section I spotted two vintage clad gals chatting away about what I surmised to be the new "Dresscue Me" show about Shareen's in Los Angeles. When I first started selling vintage I used to go to Shareen's monthly $3 sale. On the bus. In the sweltering LA summer. I would literally drag home a giant garbage bag full of vintage dresses to sell. Ah, those were the days.
Since I rarely run into anyone around these parts that shares my love of thrifting/vintage/fashion, I promptly inserted myself into their conversation. It turned out to be Sammy from Sammy Davis Vintage and Amelia from New Old Fashion Vintage. They were both perfectly lovely and we chatted for a bit about whether Shareen is really as crazy as she seems on show (I haven't seen it yet, but she was her own brand of crazy when I used to shop there), the best places to thrift in town, our favorite vintage shops and running into not-so-friendly vintage pickers at thrift store. It was wonderful to meet you ladies, just in case you're reading this!

Moving Pictures: Many Belles Down
For a while I've been toying with the idea of featuring a weekly video on the blog. I'm always running across videos I enjoy but I've never been able to figure out exactly how to work them into my weekly posting. When I saw this video for Many Belles Down I knew now was the time to finally figure it out. I really like their spring collection of modern, easy-to-wear dresses done in vintage prints. Just throw on a pair of sandals and you'd be ready to go.
So from now on I think I'll be including a weekly video on the blog. Sometimes it will be fashion, sometimes music, sometimes with commentary, sometimes without. Just whatever catches my fancy that week. Enjoy!

Photography: Behind the Scenes with David Hamilton
all scans from Starr Crow
I can't believe that in all the time I've had this blog I haven't posted about David Hamilton. His dreamy soft focus 70s photos are the stuff blog dreams are made of. I was so excited when Starr posted these behind the scenes shots from a 70s era issue of Show magazine. I've seen so many of his photos but never this perspective of the photographer capturing the image.
These images also make me really excited about a few Hamilton worthy pieces I've picked up at the thrift store over the past couple of weeks. Now I just need to find some tall grass to stand in for photos!

Where is the future, there is no past...
photos by Tom b.
- AA top
- 30s silk skirt
- Libris Lunaria tote
- Jeffrey Campbell heels
- listening to: Graveyard - Hisingen Blues "Hisingen Blues"
Today Tom and I were running errands when we spotted this old farmhouse and barn with a for sale sign out front. We stopped to look around purely out of curiosity. Was it our fault that the door happened to be wide open? I was sooo loud clomping around in that empty house on the hardwood stairs in my wooden sandals! Obviously no one else was there to disturb but it just seemed wrong making so much noise in the peace and quiet of the house.
This 30s silk skirt is one of those pieces that has been hanging in my closet for ages that I've never quite found the right outfit to wear it. I'm pretty sure I'm wearing it backwards anyway but the little gathers are my favorite part so I put them at the front. I think it's the length of the skirt that always throws me off so I paired it with super high heels to balance it out. Not exactly the best idea for running errands so next time I think I'll try flats.

LA Inspiration
all photos from Mr. Newton
Soon enough Tom and I will be a mile high and on our way to sunny Los Angeles. It will be our first visit to LA since we left three years ago. I can't believe it's been that long since we lived there! We'll be catching up with lots of friends, visiting all our old favorite restaurants, hitting up the Griffith Observatory (it was closed for renovations while we lived there) and just generally chilling out for a week. Of course I'll also be doing a tour of all my favorite vintage shops that I miss. And perhaps the best part... spending a night out in the desert!
I'm pretty excited, if you haven't gathered that already. I've been collecting images of things I'd like to wear while I'm there. Outfits that just seem a bit out of place in Lancaster or ones it's just been too dang cold to wear! All of these photos were snapped over the weekend at Coachella and are just the sorts of things I'll be packing. That second one on Tali Lennox is pretty much my LA dream outfit. And unless I'm crazy, she's wearing this dress. Perhaps I'll have to make that dream a reality.

Don't underestimate the things that I will do...
- vintage boy's t-shirt
- H&M jeans
- UO canvas wedges
- vintage wicker purse
- thrifted belt
- listening to: Adele - 21 "Rolling in the Deep"
Whoa! Me in jeans! I know, right? It's a rarity so I figured we'd better preserve it for posterity's sake. I'm not usually a fan of jeans but I'm really liking these wide leg ones. I can't tell you the last time I wore a new pair of jeans. Ages ago! But these are pretty soft and comfy and they make me feel like I'm channeling Jane Birkin and that's always a good thing.
I feel like these Monday posts always turn into a Weekend Updates of sorts. So, here goes... this weekend we had a huge thunderstorm which I thoroughly enjoyed, discovered there are baby squirrels in our backyard tree, had our first daffodil bloom in our yard, cooked Thai food at home and watched bad countdown shows on VH1.

Olive & Orange
Here are a few looks from Olive & Orange, the diffusion line by Orla Kiely. You can definitely see the Orla Kiely design aesthetic at work here; classic, lady like looks in modern prints. They call the look " feminine yet quirky, with an air of innocence." I couldn't agree more.

Photography: Clifton R. Adams
I first saw a few images from photographer Clifton R. Adams popping up on blogs and tumblrs a couple of weeks ago. I was so taken with the beautiful images I instantly wanted to see and know more. I found quite a few examples of his work (there is an extensive selection in National Geographic's archives) but very little information about the photographer himself. Most of the images are of young ladies in colorful dress surrounded by equally colorful gardens of flowers. The lady on the boat gliding through the hyacinth is one of the best images I've ever seen! I want to be there right now. There are also quite a few images of the English and Irish countryside with village people dresses in their everyday wears. I imagine the photographer was located around that area but if anyone has any information about him, I'd love to know! Get ready for photo overload... there were so many good ones I had a hard time narrowing it down.

Come and Gone
photos by Tom b.
- Ordinary Happy Moments Dress c/o Modcloth
- Jeffrey Campbell sandals
- vintage hat
It seems that Monday was just a little tease of spring (nearly summer). It came and went all too quickly. At least it gave me a chance to wear my new Dear Creatures dress. This is the one I had my eye on when the lookbook came out and I'm so happy it's mine. Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed by so much pattern, but I'm glad I made an exception for this dress.
Tom and I took advantage of the nice weather by spending some time in Longs Park. It seems everyone else in town had the same idea. It was so crowded! After that we headed to our favorite Indian restaurant where we drank Taj beer and stuffed ourselves on malai kofta and kadhai paneer. I guess everyone else in town was still at the park because we were the only people in the whole place. The manager brought us carrot pudding for dessert then I went home and fell right into a food coma while watching the last parts of Mildred Pierce. It was a pretty good day!

Speaking of Colemino
It must break some sort of blogger rule to post about a spring collection and a fall collection from the same designer on the same day. Oh well! Our taste of spring here lasted, oh... about 24 hours. Do I sound bitter? Now it's back to cold and rainy and this is as good a day as any to look at pretty fall outfits. I just couldn't help myself when I saw these lookbook shots from the Colemino A/W 2011 collection. Especially when they're inspired by the female pilots of the early 2oth century. Think Amelia Earhart!

Colenimo
The clothes from Colenimo's spring/summer 2011 collection seem perfectly suited for a modern day Daisy Buchanan. The collection was inspired by a single photograph taken by Edward Steichen in 1928. The black and white photo captures four lovely ladies as they gaze out over the sea. I think the collection perfectly captures the spirit of that photograph.

Spring at Last
- 40s lace dress
- vintage Aigner flats
- vintage woven market bag
- thrifted belt
This outfit consists of several of my favorite things in my closet right now; this lace dress, a market bag that it took me nearly two years to thrift and a new old pair of summer staple flats. Today it's supposed to be in the 80s outside! My time on the computer will be very limited today as Tom and I will be finding every excuse to spend as much time outdoors as possible. See ya tomorrow!

Freedom Two
You know you've been blogging for too long when you can't remember if you've blogged something before or not. I was pretty sure I'd posted about Lonely Hearts Little Bandits collection previously but I couldn't remember exactly. A little look back confirmed that I had indeed posted a few behind the scenes shots from their studio as well as a few looks from their lookbook. The collection was used in this collaboration between Lonely Hearts and photographer Sara Orme.** I really love the yellow floral pieces. They remind me of a 90s skirt I recently found at the thrift store for the shop that I think I'll be wearing at least once before selling it. These photos also confirmed that I need to be on the lookout for the perfect cream colored cropped sweater.
** Correction: The collection was actually an Always Sometimes Anytime initiated collaboration, that enlisted the Little Bandits Collection and commissioned Sara Orme to shoot it, as well as Kat Patrick to write pieces that attempt to define our contemporary notion of Freedom. (per Always Sometimes Anytime).
