What I'm Wearing

3096220052_93f8e78aee_o[1]
dress: H&M
tights: Mastermind
coat: vintage
hat, gloves, purse & shoes: vintage
shawl: DIY'd from vintage materials - see below :)

I've had this vintage fur collar lying around my closet for weeks and I've been wondering what to do with it. I also had a dress that I'd bought just so I could take the little beaded collar from it. Suddenly I realized that I could use the satin cord belt from the dress to make a little tie for the collar and wear it over coats and sweaters (see the post below for a little more detail).

I have to admit that even though I have a vintage coat with a fur collar that I've worn to go out, I felt a little funny wearing this collar. I kept thinking someone was going to pelt me with flour or throw a PETA flier in my face. I know with a post like this there's always the danger of opening up the fur debate. I guess my stance is that there's enough fur in the world already. If we can demonstrate a way to repurpose the existing fur, there's no need for one more single animal to die. But then again, you could argue there's really no reason to wear fur at all.

I love this outfit!!
I enjoy seeing all of your outdoors & abandoned homes pictures. You must live in a beautiful area because all of your pictures seem to tell a story. :)

Have a great day!!

Fabulous! I think this is one of my favorite outfits you've worn!!! I think wearing vintage fur is acceptable, why let it go to waste? Though I do understand you being a little shy wearing it out, i'd feel the same way. You look absolutely darling!!!! :o)

Oh, I love it! (I don't think that wearing vintage fur is bad. As it already exists, you could do no good for the animal if you'd not wear the fur anyway)

Hello! I am the winner of the gray dress from your last auction and I was wondering when you ship/whether you do package tracking. I live in an apartment building with no doorman and I like to have an idea what day it will come in order to prevent theft.

Thanks!

I totally agree with you when it comes to vintage fur - and also, I’m totally afraid to wear my most precious vintage fur piece out in town: I own the most gorgeous, caramel-cream coloured rabbit fur anorak, complete with hood and everything. It was handed down to me from my mom (she grew too big for it - lucky me) and it was made for her by my elementary school friend’s mom. Back in the 70s (yeah, I’m that old), it was common that the farmers in our small (German) village grew rabbits as Sunday roasts, while their wives learned how to make beautiful things like pillow covers, caps, collars or jackets out of the remaining skins. After all, I probably cuddled, fed and ate some of the rabbits which finally ended up my beautiful jacket...

Anyway - Love your blog, love your style. You really are gorgeous and unique. So Merry Christmas and all the best for 2009!

Greetings from Germany,
Steph

BTW: Could you please, please, please post an update on Captain Jack? I wonder what he’s up to these days…

I love your creative combination of outfits. Each one is so unique and expresses so much personality. I wish I had your unique abilities.
And I agree with you on the vintage fur. I'm very anti-PETA, personally (not to spark up any debate or anything.)I love animal fur and wear it frequently, because there is nothing more timeless than fur... well, pearls, too. :D

Oh, I am really afraid each time I pull out my vintage fur hat, but I think that once it is found, made, killed (?), and found again, it i "Alright". Interesting tights, you do manage to incorporate any piece into your outfits :)

i agree with you 100% on fur. my conscience (and budget) would never allow me to buy a new fur garment, but i'm ok with wearing second hand furs. one could say i'm just letting some lady from years past do my dirty work, but it's really just a way of reducing and reusing.
