I, like many others I'm sure, can spend waaaay too much time fantasy shopping on the Anthropologie site. And every time one of the catalogs come in the mail, I get a bit weak in the knees. Not so much for the clothes in that case, but all of the wonderful locations they use. Hi, Anthropologie? Can I please have a job styling your photo shoots? Thanks!
Unfortunately most of my shopping lately has been just that - fantasy shopping. But just because I can't hit the "buy" button doesn't mean I can't take a little inspiration from my virtual shopping cart. Case in point - these two way-out-of-my-budget blouses. I've had these photos saved in my sewing to-do file for ages but haven't gotten around to putting them into action. Hopefully publishing the idea here will give me the little kick in the pants I need to finally get around to it. Both seem like they would be easy enough to accomplish. For the white blouse I need to find just the right black fabric to make a big, drapey bow. And the black one just requires a fitted black tank and a simple bow on the shoulder. The next time I'm at the thrift store I'm going to keep a special eye out for the materials and I'll let you know how it goes.

You can do it! They aren`t that hard to make. I`ve seen some very nice shoes on the anthropologie site though:( and it annoys me because i`m not that good at online shopping and, of couse, they cost a lot..
Oh man! I can't wait to see the final product! Have been sourcing for a bow to wear along with my white top too...i think a bow is really versatile, as it can be worn together with different tops and vamp up the look!
Thats a great proyect to do, I loveboth of the tops,Sally I want to wish you the best in this new year 2009!! seee you!!:)
The second top, the one with the shoulder bow, is now on sale for 39.95 in the stores.
I was waiting for it to go on sale, too. Often many things that are not on sale online are on sale in stores, and vice versa. I work there and often do the markdowns. It's fun but I don't make any money.
That's so creepy because I was thinking the EXACT same thing as you today... I tried on a white silky blouse with a floppy black bow at the neck and didn't end up buying because I thought 'hmmm, I really could make this'!
I really think this will be a DIY fashion year for me...I have to pay the final part of the home loan...I should be crative, at least!
The white blouse is really sweet..Good luck with your bow :)
Yes, I like you spend way too much time creatively losing myself on the Anthro site - and the catalog! My husband bought me one of their leather handbags for Christmas (on sale of course)! I've been waiting (for what seems like forever) for a pair of boots to go on sale on their website. You can definitely DIY those 2 tops. I look forward to seeing what you do! :-)
I have to admit. I do the same thing on a daily basis it seems. browse sites. Fill up my little shopping cart, give a little sigh and leave without buying anything. Though I can't decide whether it's more therapeutic, or more depressing. lol.
i love the one with the bow on the shoulder. i guess they wouldn't be too hard to make, i don't really have the patience for sewing though! x
I can't wait to see the finished product!
Get to it. Hahaha.
i lvoe the one with the bow on the shoulder.
Happy New Year from New Zealand Sally Jane ! It looks like you have some fab ideas to keep you busy in 2009. I can't wait to see your version of these blouses, even better than the originals I am betting !
you know what's funny? i received a couple of anthropologie giftcards, but now that i have money to spend there, i cannot find anything that screams BUY ME! maybe in the spring time?
Thanks so much for your comments! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one wasting too much time on the Anthropologie site. I went to the thrift store yesterday and got the materials needed for the first top. I'll let you know how it goes!
Do a black one for me :-)
