Paris 1962

123

I discovered this Flickr photo set via Niotillfem last night and I think my jaw actually dropped. The saturated colors! The clothes! The poodle at dinner! And those fingernails! Yikes. I love how intimate the photos are, as if you're sitting right there at the table listening to wine glasses clink and laughter fill the air as smoke fills the room. I don't know if I've ever seen photos that captured the mood of a room quite so well.

From the Flickr set description: "Images from Paris cafés and nightlife in 1962, the same week Yves St. Laurent's runway show vaulted Dior to new heights."

What happened to those years? I want it all back, the place, the smell, the love, the dogs, the food, it all comes down to one word: P A R I S (french accent)

I feel like Don Draper should be hanging out there. Actually, I wish I was hanging out there! With Don Draper. Well, a version of Don where he's not a cheating bastard... I digress.
I used to have my nails just like that. I feel like I should have my nails done in a fabulous color again for the holidays.

Elegant. I looked at these on Friday and came back for a second look. The soft, roller curls in the women's hair transcend the vintage chic factor. They actually look quite fresh and edgy after years of the stick straight trend we've been stuck in. I agree with another readers comment about coral - I think this is a great feminine counter-balance to sharp black eyeliner. However, I have yet to find the right shade for my latina skin color. Most look florescent on me.
